I hate that I have to say this, because Payne does INCREDIBLE work and I've been a fan of all his podcasts since the beginning, but ALL of his recent podcasts have become WAY too repetitive! I think most people look past it due to the great work y'all do, but now we've got entire episodes consisting of the same repetitive recaps only to lead to FULL interviews by the PI. So unbelievably boring. Had to stop listening which is a shame as the story itself is fantastic. Gotta get that ad $$$ 🙄

This podcast is so well done. Research, honest feelings, vivid descriptions! It moved me when feelings were shared. Raw and real. Solemnity.

I appreciate all the hardwork and putting himself out there. I guess I have to write “but” because there was little communications to listeners and dabs why there were such long delays. It appears that the podcast abruptly ended. I do hope everyone is ok.

The story-telling and the investigative work is so good. It's captivating. And then there will be 2-3 episodes in a row of straight police interview recordings. It's so boring and repetitive, and surely they could have been clipped for relevance.

These are extremely interesting cases and Payne is kind and respectful of victims and their families. I am so glad he has decided to open up the topic of missing indigenous people (mostly women) and how unjustly they are being treated by the government and law enforcement. I love how the team is actually tracking people down and talking to them and not just internet sleuthing and then talking about it. I have listened to all 4 seasons and it’s top notch investigating, truly helping families of missing people who would have otherwise fallen through the cracks. I cannot help but mention however, how incredibly repetitive it is. My husband and I listened to season 4 together and we almost stopped listening at episode 7/8. I’m glad we didn’t stop because it picks up and gets way more interesting. But the repetition is just exhausting. So many of the interviews are repeated over and over. So many of the same clips you hear multiple times when it easily could have just been referred backed to or summarized. The same sentences again and again. And you’ll have 3 episodes in a row playing the same clips throughout and we are like ok we get it, you called him 11 times!! Some of the audio recordings are so hard to understand and some of it is just absolutely and completely unnecessary and we hear it so many times. Also, if there is going to be so much repetition then why have an elongated full four minute recap at the beginning of each episode?? Maybe a 30 second recap followed by, if you’re not up to date, listen to the previous episodes!! Love love love the investigating and all the dedication and hard work, but could we cut some of the constant restating of the same exact content? I would recommend but be prepared to wear out your skip ahead 30 second button. Thank you!

I have been a fan from day one and love Payne’s attention to the family and adding a little bit of drama to the mix (in a positive light). He is relentless in his pursuit of the truth and I appreciate that. Love your crew too!

Love this podcast but I found myself skipping through a lot of episodes that kept repeating interviews/information. Still a favorite though!

I think it’s fantastic that this story is being covered. I also believe it can be somewhat dangerous journalism. Many episodes of chapter two are spent discrediting or exposing gaps in some folks schedule. These boys lying, while seemingly important, doesn’t mean anything until you can prove what they WERE doing during the unaccounted for time. The perception the narrator is trying to create is quite obvious and also probably quite inconvenient locally for the three fellas who are telling the tall tales. Liar does not equal murderer. Other than that part, on both of the missing parties, there are interesting stories but after listening for hours, the resulting knowledge I have is quite the same as before I began listening. There are two missing people, very few details as to where they are or how they went missing, and no viable suspects. I hope the story concludes with true excitement, not just narrator generated excitement about a big break that just isn’t.

Listening to Season 4 and binged the whole thing. The investigation is keeping me engaged and on the edge of my seat! Can't wait to see where it goes and truly hope that the families find some answers. Sounds like a place I would never want to go to. Bravo guys for all your hard work even in the face of of personal danger.

I have loved this podcast since the beginning. Great investigative work and Paynes voice is so nice to listen to. I love all the work they do, and how well they care for victims and their families. I really hate to say anything negative but season 4 has been a lot of repeated content that at some points made me wonder if I accidentally was re listening to previous episodes. Overall love this podcast!

The previous seasons were really good, but this season is basically long interviews with Payne making some sarcastic comments that don’t really make sense or add anything. It’s also super biased. Just tell the story, don’t add all this weird commentary that’s unnecessary

Season 4 has become very hard to follow.

If you don’t like don’t listen, if a podcast did everything everyone would recommend someone would still be upset. These are stories of missing or murdered people, let’s not forget why you’re listening.

I began listening after the final episode was released and I'm so happy I did because usually I'm able to stop after a few episodes then pick up again another day however I got really sucked in in the last few and just kept going until it was done. Wonderful reporting and Payne is a great storyteller.

Started with season 4. Doubtful I’ll listen to the rest of the seasons after this one. 17 episode in and we still aren’t done. The topic is great. And he’s opened up a Pandora’s box with the investigation, but the content of the pod is just awful. Repeating information 2-3 times…in great detail. Playing full interviews rather than a summation. Playing audio where you hear someone destroying a keyboard rather than the dialog is hugely distracting. A good editor is your friend.

The loud typing on Andy’s interviews makes it really hard to listen to unfortunately!

This is a very interesting story but there is so much repeated content that I’m disappointed almost every week. Payne could recap in like 20 seconds if it’s necessary, rather than playing repeated interviews over and over again. I also wish Payne’s commentary felt a little more natural rather than him reading and trying to make it sound like he’s speaking. Good overall and I know they’ve done a lot of admirable work for these cases, but I wish I didn’t have to wait so long for new episodes just for the same information played back again.

Most podcasts out there just discuss other people’s investigations. Payne actually investigates, and the podcast is being recorded in real time. It’s incredibly captivating, and he’s using the platform to make real, actual progress that helps the victim’s families. Lots of the other podcasters in true crime or investigative journalism make themselves the main character. Personally, I hate that. Payne gives all the respect and credit where it’s due and keeps the focus on the victims and the timeljne.

i love this series. i will say Payne can come off a bit ego heavy at times but that has been said. Season 4 is a little messy in my opinion. the last two episodes have been playing full audio recordings that take up the entire episode and aren’t very interesting. feels slightly lazy especially when you wait the week and see a new episode and it doesnt land. great podcast

Truly disappointed the the most recent episode is subscription only. I have been waiting all week to find out what is happening. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. What a waste of $35. I’ve cleared my queue, restarted the app. Closed the app and restarted the phone. Still…ads. Yes, it says it’s the + edition in the episode artwork.

Seasons 1 and 2 were amazing. These long breaks, with behind the scenes episodes are exhausting. Impossible to keep interest. Would be nice to get updates about when real episodes will come out. I understand things happen and interrupt the flow, but would be nice to know what to expect. To add, when new episodes do come out, they’re just replaying parts of other episodes, with no new information. Seems lazy. This isn’t storytelling. If you need more time, just take the time. Very disappointing and seems like a waste of listeners’ time.

So many interviews played and then replayed in their entirety without any commentary. Started out interesting and then became frustrating and hard to listen to. Needs serious editing

All this podcast has become is listening to this private investigator pound away at his keyboard while interviewing these guys. There seems to be very little direction anymore it’s become so boring and drawn out the last few episodes. I can’t even finish them anymore.

I could not stop listening to season 1 and was excited for season 2- but dude, all of those interviews with terrible sound quality was just too much! I could not hear or understand most of them and had to give up. If you can re-mix season 2 for sound- especially the phone calls, I would be all in!

50% of each episode is suspenseful music. 45% of each episode is repeating the same interviews and reports. 5% of each episode is a shadow of a smidge of new information. Payne, you guys need to edit and condense. You could easily fit the last 5 episodes (since date of this post, 10/5/24) into one. Move the story along! Present new, relevant info that moves the story forward. Stop publishing empty suspense.

I have been a fan of this pod since its inception, but this half season has become unlistenable. Simply replaying interviews in their entirety is the laziest form of storytelling. Also, in the “emergency someone’s tracking me on Alaskan airlines” sound bite, Payne’s speech sounded alarmingly slurred. I’m out for a bit-

Second half of season 4 just seems like police interviews over and over again and Payne saying ‘it just doesn’t make sense.’ I’m hopeful it will evolve into something fresh and come to some conclusions — and circle back to Florence at some point — but not holding my breath.

I listened to the first 3 seasons. They were enjoyable. The second season was so heartbreaking and to this day, it’s the only coverage I’ve ever heard on Crystal’s case. The current season is so drawn out. The second half of the current season’s episodes contain almost no new info. I honestly don’t know why I’m even listening. Every week I’m disappointed with the new episodes of nothing burgers.

The episodes just keep repeating the content from other episodes in different order.

Why is this investigator typing and also recording the interview at the same time. Hearing it is very distracting and makes the story hard to follow.

I can’t express enough how great this podcast is. Makes me emotional listening to the families and how know one is caring. You guys are amazing and I hope you don’t stop! I can imagine out hard this is for you investigating and getting close to the victims. Thank you ❤️

I’ve been getting podcasts alerts for the rest of season 4 and it’s all filler ads and paywall. I had to unfollow the show. Great show, but I personally will forget about the story and lose interest if there is a months long break in between. Also part 2 reveals crumbs. It’s mostly repeats information ad nauseam.

Not only were the last two episodes literally exactly the same, but the title of this episode has literally nothing to do with the episode. It’s the very last minute and will “supposedly” be what next episode is about. I’m just constantly in shock in awe that you can make a career on just playing *entire* full length interviews and calling them an actual episode. Ugh I just want to know the story, what you’re doing to help these people… This is truce crime at its worst. It’s merely gawking, which is just… so, so bad. Prime example of just an all around poor job. I officially give up.

The episodes are repeats half of the time from the previous episode. It completely pivoted to a different case part way through. Payne makes a lot of big assumptions without sharing additional evidence to back up his thinking. And now over ten episodes in with hardly any progress, they’re saying the finale is coming??? But the a new season will be out that continues forward?? All I hear is them pulling along all of their listeners for ad revenue. But be better at it.

Whyyyy do we need to listen to these whole interviews and hear the typing?! Seems to be dragging on and nothing is happening. I want to like this podcast but it’s very frustrating.

I’m just wondering if it’s just me.. 3 episodes into the 3 season.. is it weird that 1 guy is the there for every interview you try to do so far? Not to mention everyone you interviewed in his presence seems pretty shook up? I’m not trying to point fingers but if anyone had something to do with it the best place for them to be is in the room with anyone who might be able to point the finger at them. Hm. Ok I never sent that review or remember it ^ lol however now we are on 4 and I can not believe anything Christine(?) says, all sounds made up and lies, at one point when she was trying to explain how her phone got locked was driving me mad almost had to turn it off for a sec. Susssspect as heck.

I took off a star for the wait in between episodes! It’s painful! Especially when the most recent episode is only of a police interview. I need more! :)

I almost can’t finish the second half of Season 4 with the typing noise in the background. It’s sooooo bad. Guys, we are recording it. We don’t need a transcription happening live. Good otherwise.

Superb reporting and story telling (again)!

rarely have i had the pleasure of listening to something like this. the integrity and dedication to not only a deep dive investigation, but also a dedication to compassion and objectivity. my only complaint is that there are only 4 seasons. payne is a cut above the rest and i know that the cases i’ve heard will stay with me for a long time.

Seasons 1-3 were great. The first half of season 4 was great. I would save them up to binge. Season 4 part 2…bad. I saved a bunch to binge once I had to wait for the second half. Edit out the typing. Or better yet summarize the old interviews and use clips. I’m trying to keep all the stories straight but I’m too busy wanting to punch someone from the past so now I’m lost and annoyed.

To all you “listeners” leaving negative reviews recently: it’s obvious who you really are and what you’re really trying to do. The more you try to sabotage Payne’s incredible work and progress in his investigation, the more you validate the investigative track he’s on and the more evidence/leads you inadvertently give him.

Is the second half of season 4 just the same information every episode scrambled up and manipulated over and over again or is it just me?

Must understand how no one questions how the sister could see through a paper bag to know what was inside. Was the police station empty and she walked up to the paper bag and looked inside? How does she know who the bag belongs to? Unless it’s sealed with her sister’s name on it…. Very questionable and unbelievable.
