Language unites and divides us. It mystifies and delights us. Patrick Cox and Kavita Pillay tell the stories of people with all kinds of linguistic passions: comedians, writers, researchers; speakers of endangered languages; speakers of multiple languages; and just speakers—people like you and me.

    Language Lover’s Dream
This podcast is everything I could ask for and more in its thoughtful, well-researched, thoroughly informative and lively presentation of words, languages and linguistics. Had not listened for awhile and the “edible intrigue” episode reminded me how fun and amazing these podcasts are. Love all the things that are woven into the stories, like interview snippets, songs and other sound effects, as they keep the stories moving. Definitely nourishment for my brain and my passion for languages and deeper meaning of words. Thank you!

    Intriguing
I love all the learning I gain from the various topics. I wish I was a linguist or could speak more than just English. :-(

Slightly aggravating insistence on spelling pronunciation of Volk
Should not keep on mispronouncing the very word that is the subject of the episode: Volk.

    So grateful...
As a linguist and a former missionary and current member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am thoroughly impressed and grateful for the fair, kind, and unbiased approach to the latest episode on missionaries and language learning. You did such a great job representing the average missionary’s experience when it comes to serving a mission and learning a new language. I’ve enjoyed listening to this podcast every so often, but this latest episode has “converted” me into a longtime listener ;) Thank you so much!

    Very Impressed
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, I have rarely been so impressed by the fairness that was afforded to the discussion around our faith and the tremendous effort and transformation of life and soul that goes into learning those languages on a mission, having learned three languages of my own on a two year mission. Thank you for your podcast, keep up the good work!

    Wonderful world of words
This is one of the best podcasts out there. If you use words, and are curious about where they come from, what they mean, or if animals have language, you will find this interesting and entertaining.

    Thank you
Since the snakes in the grass at NPR sunk the treasure of “commercial-free radio” and stuffed its programming with odious advertising, I’ve nearly despaired of radio companionship. Discovering your “World in Words” podcast is such a refreshing treat! . Thank you! Gene Theroux, Lovettsville VA

Most interesting podcast about language EVER
The most recent episode, on Braille, was captivating. I cannot describe further, for it has so upset my old assumptions about this method of permitting literacy and self-reliance. Bravo, hosts...and thank you.

Huge Liberals & Little Linguistic Content
I don’t think this podcast is that bad, what drives me crazy is listening to Democrats complain about Trump all day. Quit the bias, this podcast isn’t even about politics! You can easily fix this problem! Also, some topics aren’t very related to linguistics :/ in these cases they’re more like extremely minor cultural issues...yawn...Some great content and some crap.

    😍😍
Probably my favorite podcast rn. It’s immensely interesting to hear such a wide and through analysis of “languages and the people who speak them”. I’ve listening to this podcast daily. I’ll be so sad when I get caught up to date. -interesting subject matter -well done and edited -also the perfect length for a quick daily listen. I literally listen as I eat breakfast everyday.

    Life Changing . . . for me
This World In Words podcast embodies so much of my passion for language. I’m a robotics engineer who wishes his life was more consumed by language. I’ve always loved and studied foreign languages, but now I’ve started studying linguistics on my own, and the podcast just keeps me motivated and helps broaden my view of the linguistic world during my commutes or jogs. I even listen to it walking between buildings at work. The production value of this podcast is high, which makes the listening experience that much better. Highly recommended!

    So good, I assign it
The show does a great job with sociolinguistic topics of all sorts. Really enjoy it

    Great content
I liked the one about dubbing. I’m an American that grew up in Germany. I’m so glad they dub. I watch Netflix shows in dubbed German when available. It helps me keep up my German. Subtitles are exhausting...I’m leaning Japanese so I can understand anime. It’s good value languages other than English and perhaps Spanish.

Great show for linguists and casual language lovers
I've been a fan of this show for many years. I love the way it presents language stories in a way that is accessible to everyone, but not dumbed down. Highly recommend it!
