jfrankel678New Orleans Tour GuideExcellent podcast by Laine Kaplan-Levenson. Laine sits down with community members from all of the multicultural groups that make up the fabric of New Orleans. She brings such a humble and inquisitive prescene and uncovers civil rights history as well as lesser-known stories of the people who have influenced New Orleans.

shmirstieWhether you’re a New Orleanian or not...There is no doubt as to the fact that the city is fascinating, now and throughout history. In that special way great NPR programming does, this podcast captivates with great story telling and brings you closer to southern, American and New Orleanian history. It’s a great true gem. As a student who lives on the UNO campus, I’m only a few feet away from where this program is recorded and I can’t tell you how proud I am that programming of this caliber comes from the WWNO offices.

VKaceyECan’t get enough!I love the short-format history lessons that this podcast presents. I love the voices and stories of our city, and I love being able to check in and get a reminder of how great New Orleans has been and has the potential to be. Keep up the great work!

hartwellianA multi-faceted look at one of the world's most fascinating citiesLike it says on the tin, this is a podcast about three hundred plus years of New Orleans, but it isn't a dry recitation of history. Diving into art, music, race, sports, politics and food, TriPod gives you not just how the crescent City was, but how and why it is the way it is now. The vibrancy of the city and its people shines through the episodes giving listeners an insight into the strange tableau that sets New Orleans apart from every other city not just in the South or the country but in the entire world. Ideal for natives and visitors alike, you will learn things not just about this little Paris, but about yourself. Subscribe!

StumbleviperApproaching historyMy personal history library would be an embarrassment to the usual home book collection. It’s what I love. So when I find a podcast that informs me about things I love I go all out to pay attention. TRIPOD is such a podcast.

SRA59Jewel in the CrownI'm a huge fan of TriPod -- learning so much and enjoying each episode. Hard to imagine that the hour-long special Hati & New Orleans: Is the Feeling Mutual? could be even better. But it is -- in part because Laine Kaplan-Levenson has the space to do even more with her wonderful storytelling, excellent historic research, and wit. My favorite podcast. Glad it's back for another season.
-
The jjjjGreat radio show!I adore this show. Learning so much about the city I love!

hijodelcristoProbably my favorite podcast ever!I started listening to this while working in the lab and I never stopped.

dannycherryUnexpectedly Awesome Historical PodcastTriPod is the first podcast about history to which I've subscribed. I'm hooked on the good story-telling, fascinating topic choice, and Laine KaplanLevenson's fantastic narration. I'd recommend this to anyone, including non-history buffs, for the unique perspective it lends to how cities develop and how history happens: locally!
-
Allison PlyerFascinating and comprehensiveThis series is fantastic. Lane does an amazing job discussing the history of New Orleans from the perspective of every group that makes up our amazing gumbo. It's light hearted and fun but also serious, but she doesn't shy away from uncomfortable topics and the ways in which racism and ethnic discrimination played out in so many aspects of the city's development. I hope everyone who wants to celebrate the tricentennial of New Orleans will listen to this podcast.
-
BooboovooLove this PodcastAs a local New Orleanian I love hearing the history of my city! Would love to see this continue past the city’s tricentennial.
-

KuaqExcellent storytellingI just discovered this podcast since moving back to my hometown of New Orleans and reconnecting with the local NPR station WWNO. Great stories. Perfect way to celebrate the New Orleans' Tricentennial! Very well done, great hostess!

NOLA historianKeep 'em coming!Love, love, love this podcast! Laine and the UNO faculty do a superb job ferreting out interesting and generally unknown stories from New Orleans' past. Love the grassroots approach, too. One of my favorite so far was the episode on the destruction of Claiborne Avenue, a center for African American business and community life, in order to put up the interstate. Another example of racial injustice that escapes view.
-
Lucindablakemost excellentlook forward to every new episode, really great stories told in a really great voice, thank you and keep em coming!

Hope44NOLAStill great, BUT.....I have been a big fan of this program and the take of the host, Laine Kaplan-Levenson, on her adopted city from the beginning. One reason is due to Ms. Kaplan-Levenson’s skill at telling stories in ways that weave the perspective of the marginalized, whether it is Jews at Camp Algiers, women in business and media, Germans, Native People, and African Americans (both enslaved and free) in the broader society, or the LGBTQ’s experience at the Upstairs Lounge, into the center of New Orleans and Louisiana history. Although I continue to give the program an “A+”, I must admit feeling somewhat disappointed with the most recent programs related to the strike of the flambeaux carriers. When discussing how the use of the flambeaux decreased for a time before its revival and how the carriers view themselves as being “participants in” but “not a part of” Mardi Gras, I thought Ms. Kaplan-Levenson should have addressed both how the changing influence and perceptions of African Americans (both by themselves and others) might have played a role and how African Americans view Mardi Gras in general. Perhaps both points, the latter one in particular, will be addressed in future programs. In any event, please keep up the good work.

NOLA native in DCA Native New Orleanian's Favorite PodcastI'm a New Orleanian who lives in the D.C. metro area and discovered the show on the podcast The Big Listen. I am so happy I did. I instantly fell in love with the show at first listen and subscribed right away. The show gives a fun, well-researched, energetic, and honest account of an aspect of New Orleans history in short, digestible episodes. I have the sense that the producers truly want the show's listeners to walk away with a more intimate relationship with New Orleans. As a native son and lover of New Orleans, the show has strengthened my connection to the city despite my living out of town. Laine Kaplan-Levenson is an excellent host who knows how to balance the energy and humor making the show hip and cool with the gravitas it takes to confer the respect that each story deserves. Lastly, I love the sound production. I knew this was my favorite podcast when the show used the rapper Devin the Dude's Doobie Ashtray instrumental as transitional music during one episode.

H.Chalewpodcast aficionadoThis podcast delightfully threads the line between entertainment and history lesson, largely due to its charismatic and engaging host, Laine Kaplan-Levenson. She is able to skillfully pull out the best information as well as the personalities of both the living people she interviews and the historical figures she elucidates. This is a podcast not just for people who love New Orleans, or learning or history but for anyone who enjoys a good story and believes that the purpose of studying history is so that we don't repeat our past mistakes.
-

What name isn't already taken?Fascinating tidbits of history!I love hearing these fascinating and largely unknown, important bits of New Orleans history. I won't walk over streets in the French quarter without thinking about the caskets below or pass Delille street without thinking about Henrietta and what she and her friends accomplished. Thanks for this amazing podcast! It is enriching my NOLA experience.

47MainStreetWhat's not to love?!History, New Orleans, Laine Kaplan-Levenson... what's not to love? Tripod is engaging, witty, and smart. It's clear that each story is carefully selected and researched. Several episodes shed light on social dynamics in New Orleans (race + ethnicity, gender, sexuality, etc), challenging listeners to both appreciate and question this city's past and present. I'm a loyal Tripod listener, and you should be too!
-
rggNHHistory has never been so fun!An outstanding chronicle, with an interesting mix of types of stories. It is one of the few pieces of media where I can count on truly losing myself in the story...great work by the TriPod team, and I can't wait for the next episodes!
-

EddlepirrrrrrrateHistory allows us to understand our presentNew Orleans is so full of history! It's nice to hear the radio tackle some small snippets of it. History is so essential to understanding and putting in context our present. We hear endless news about the present, but without the knowledge of our local history, the real meaning of the news is almost completely lost. I hope this keeps going forever as some type of history program, especially with so many new people moving to New Orleans post-Katrina. Those new people need a way to come to understand the place they have moved to in a way that will allow them to integrate into our city without causing as much damage as they would've without the contextual understanding a program like this can help illuminate.
-
HowBoutDat13112Great Show! Thanks for all the work you do! This is such a great show and should be mandatory for all New Orleanians. It's so interesting and we have such a great history to explore here in the city.

xoxWMGLISTEN TO TRIPOD!!I absolutely LOVE tripod. Every episode thus far has been both extremely entertaining and moving. Although Tripod is, strictly speaking, a podcast about particular historical moments in the city of New Orleans, the ideas and lessons drawn from each episode extend far beyond the time and place in which they are set -- they provide insight into so much of our contemporary world and speak not only to New Orleaneans but to those of us who are far away from the city. And, THAT HOST!!!!! She brings so much life and feeling to every episode, and I constantly find myself smiling along or laughing out loud. Bottom line is…. LISTEN!!!!!
