Maid MirawynWriting needs editing; reading is tedious and painful. The author tries so hard to make his reading sound intense and dark that it comes off as a joke. It's painful to listen to, and the story wasn't that good, either. Some people say it gets better with time. But the poor reading is so distracting that I can't finish the second episode. I know writing and recording is hard, and I try to give new authors the benefit of the doubt. However, that only goes so far. Perhaps if someone were editing for him, and someone else read it, it might be worthwhile. But as it stands? No.

Sgp232790It is okThe fact that the villion's name is Raven Claw made me think of Harry Potter pissed me off. And the author is very boring. I wish he had gotten someone else to do it. His narration is very repetitive and has a habit of describing ordinary things is awful. However, I have read all three novels and overall, I'd recommend it. Its a goid story for teens. He is no John Lenahan (see shadowmagic series) but it is a good story. 3 stars for good story, great plot, and developed characters.

HZVMGood story... and thatIf you can go through the first chapter, you can make it through the book. I liked the story, and if I had gotten the actual book (if there is one) I would've liked it a lot. But... The writer has a horrible accent and does a horible job voicing. His women voices are pukey. On top of that, more than other podiobooks, there is music. Not just at the beginning. Throughout the whole book, sometimes while he's speaking. Also, sometimes there are sound effects that are at least 3 times louder than the voice (peircing notes) that really hurt the ears. These only happen later in the book. It's not a harry potter wannabe or even like any other book, which is what makes it most enjoyable. My suggestion: rent it from a library or just buy it.

Kandiland2001Tries Too HardThe premise is ok, if it weren't for the fact it is a total rip off of Harry Potter wannabe. The author is horrible at reading his own work. The music/sound effects are distracting. Redundant in phases. Annoying with the voices. I listen to the whole book and have decided not to go on with the series.

SebotheosCould be betterThe story was pretty good, though obviously a first attempt. There are Manu instances of repeated discriptions of the same thing in successive sentences, and giving the full name of the store every time was a little wearing. Character development was good, but could have been more refined. In short the story needed an editor. The only other major thing was the reading, the author, with his too obvious accent made it hard to listen to. Someone with an American or british accent would have been better, and the cost to hire them would have been well worth it.

bmwjoewanted to rip off my earsYes the story is good. He should have gotten someone else to read. He is slow, emotionless and seems to me to emphasize some hispanic ethnicity. I did like the story, but only got through a couple chapters before the bleeding from my ears stopped me.

kier22Trying to work with itThe Story line is good & has great potential, but Im having a real problem with the writer. Maybe if he had someone else read, used his background sounds and didn't say the full name of the store in every sentence...I could give more stars. Earlier reviews did say the beginning was tough so I'll chalk it up to that & keep listening...just know the beginning IS Rough.

Leej28More fun than I would have thoughtI enjoyed this podiobook more than I would have thought. Areces was a little slow in the early chapters and tended to repeat himself. But you could definitely see him grow as a writer as the story progressed. This is a story about a normal guy (Jessie) who finds a job through the internet working at a wizards and witches corner store, frequented by Halloween enthusiasts, or so Jessie thought. That is until he meets Chu-U-Chu, a real wizard, invesitigating murders of people being scared to death. I found it amusing.

JosiePosiesNon-Stop Magic Action Thrill-RideThis well-written novel by (far as I can tell) first-time podcaster J.A. Areces is a fantastic novel about witches, wizards, and finding oneself after high school. There are elements similar to many popular magic-infused novels of today and includes pop-culture references of our day and age. My favorite part of the book is the description the author gives of magic. What is it? Listen and find out.
