    Educational and encouraging
I have been listening to this podcast for a few months and not only is it educational for those trying to be traditionally published, but it is also encouraging in a slow and rejection-filled industry.

    Just right
I listen to this podcast while working out and it’s just the right amount of information and inspiration.

    Mixed Bag
I’m at the beginning of the learning curve. Ten episodes will do it for me. My experience of these podcasts is that they’re informative, rarely insightful. But after three shows, I’m out of patience with relentless enthusiasm, hyperbole and breathless praise for nearly everything, including typos.

    Inspiring!
Really enjoy this podcast! As a querying author, I highly recommend giving it a listen!

An Incredible Resource for Writers and/or Illustrators
I have been listening to the Manuscript Academy podcast for over a year as an author/illustrator coming back to my previous career. Jennifer and Julie’s interview style is as informative as it is entertaining. With my picture book dummy now ready to query an agent, I have also just joined and am excited to see what this new journey brings! Thank you for this insight into the slightly intimidating world of publishing.

    Chatty chatty
Episodes tortuously long. Hosts allow interview to go off track. Look at a transcription print-out of an episode, take out 40% of the words and it works. Felt like I was listening to a ladies coffee club with inside jokes and chatter. I love podcasts 20 min long, 30 max, unless it’s highly produced: Hidden Brain, Fresh Air, etc.

unsubscribed during the daniele hunter episode.
nothing worse than hearing gatekeepers whining about how unfair everything is.

    Newer listener, big fan!
This podcast has a topic of interest for every writer looking to grow and learn. Thank you for the thoughtful interviews with agents, writers, and publishers, and for the engaging subject matter.

Maybe its not them its me ?
But Julie please enunciate all the syllables in every word. It makes for easier listening. There is a wide variety of guests which is good but anything too far out of the writing sphere (agents and writers) makes it too ambiguous for my taste. Maybe Ive outgrown it

    Review for August 25th upload
For a while now I have been following the podcast, and the hosts are engaging, the topics interesting and while the guests are a hit or miss I’ve never had any problem listening to them. But the guest author they had on for this week, was so so annoying. It was very hard to listen to her, and the fact that “she can’t mention the book she used as a resource because it’s a spoiler”-if you have to do that, then don’t mention anything about it. Just annoying, the type to want to be helpful, but she had to be prompted in order to give actual tips, instead of them naturally occurring in the discussion, it was very narcissistic. Her comment that her work is “organic, and not a formula” is so pretentious, anyone who has a prolific writing career- from the biggest writers to the smallest- have one form of formula. It’s inevitable, even while writing over a vast majority of genres. So yeah, this author has put me from ever reading her books, and seriously considering unsubscribing from the postcast.

    Excellent resources for querying writers
Useful topics thoughtfully curated and presented by engaging and supportive publishing industry professionals. I feel like I ought to grab a cup of tea before listening then immediately work on my submission materials.

    Ideas That Stick
I found this podcast last month and have been inhaling it. The wisdom and authenticity of the guests and hosts make me think about the podcasts’ ideas long after the episode’s over. Super for networking and specificity.

    So grateful I found this!
I love listening to this podcast because I learn something new with every episode. I love the low-key interviews with agents and authors who are willing to share the scenes bhind the curtain into what makes the publishing industry tick. I appreciate the candor of the agents who guest, the practical tips they share and their willingness to help aspiring authors succeed.

So Helpful, I Wrote a Review
...instead of working on my manuscript. Your time is well invested giving these interviews a listen to learn about writing and the publication process. The range of topics offers something for everyone, no matter what step they are on to seeing their manuscript become a book.

    Such a wonderful writing community!
I listen to a LOT of writing podcasts, but the Manuscript Academy is one of my absolute favorites. Every time I see a new episode, I want to listen to it right away! Getting to hear from agents, authors, editors, and others from the publishing world is always educational and inspiring. And the Manuscript Academy community is so helpful and supportive. Thank you Julie and Jessica for all you do for writers of all backgrounds and experiences!

    Inspiring and Educational!
After working on a novel for six years, I was considering throwing it away rather than finish rewriting it during covid. But then I began listening the Manuscript Academy podcasts and not only began rewriting with a vengeance, I did so with a more informed view of what agents and editors want to find. This is a fantastic podcast for writers.

    Great insight from industry experts.
I could purchase a book about writing books (ok, I already did this) and read about one author’s point of view, or I could listen to this podcast and gain insight from a variety of experts in the publishing industry. I have enjoyed Q and A from the hosts as well as updated information provided during interviews. I recommend this podcast.
  • Luckydaniel
    Amazing podcast
SO excited to have found this podcast. The hosts are so knowledgeable and they bring on really cool guests from around the publishing industry!
  • Lp1624
    Great industry tips and updates
Have especially appreciated the updates about the current state and changes in the industry during this time. An informative podcast I always look forward to!

    Educational, inspiring, and encouraging show
Julie and Jessica are such fun hosts of this show highlighting all aspects of writing, agenting, editing, and the publishing industry. After listening to almost the entire catalogue of episodes, I feel less apprehensive about communicating with agents and industry professionals. Julie and Jessica are so encouraging to writers, and I have learned so much. Thank you to you lovely hosts for sharing your wisdom. I look forward to many more episodes!

    Fantastic inside info
The best writing podcast I have found—very practical information about all aspects of the industry, from querying to publicity. Highly recommend!
  • joethewriter
A big commercial for their classes
Very little actual information here. It’s mostly a commercial for the classes they give. Almost every interview is about 10 minutes with someone who is teaching a class where the first 5 minutes are an introduction to the person. You’re better off listening to other writing podcasts to learn about the business and the craft.
  • HurricaneFinley
    Great Information
This platform gives listeners exposure to almost every aspect of publishing—from the original idea to the final publishing. The beginning episodes were a little too filled with personal trivia of hosts and guests; that has improved a great deal. The one thing that is annoying is The Valley Girl lilt that permeates each podcast. Sometimes it makes me stop listening. Good luck to both of you.
  • BethanyR
    Truly helpful
I’ve made great strides in my writing career thanks directly to this podcast and Jessica and Julie’s resources in The Manuscript Academy.
  • mmirabito
Wow, Julie and Jessica are so generous with their knowledge and expertise
Sometimes I feel torn when I listen to Podcasts—like, I really should be writing instead! But not with this podcast. In fact, I usually feel as though I should listen to this before writing ANYTHING. On the downside, I just found it. On the upside, I have a lot of catching up to do.
  • azwritinggal
    Informative
I have listened to every podcast episode and always learn so much from Jessica, Julie, and the guest. The first page podcasts are my favorite! It’s great to hear the thoughts of an agent while they read their inbox submissions. I recommend this podcast for all writers!
  • ClayWrites
I don’t do podcasts, but I do this one.
Jessica and Julie are true gifts to the publishing industry. They are kind, funny, insightful, and it generously giving their time on this earth to help others become better at what they do. As a writer who is still unpublished, I love binging a few of these every so often to catch up on what’s happening in publishing, to learn tips and tools of the trade, and to feel a little less alone in a job that can feel isolating. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in writing as a career.
  • Crazyquill
    Top notch!
These ladies provide excellent content consistently and it's great to have both a writer and an agent's view of things. Highly recommend!

    A Must-Listen for Every Writer
There are so many little things to improve upon as a writer, from nailing the first line of a manuscript to holding onto your sanity while you're querying. This podcast is so good at pinpointing what those little things are and diving deep into specific strategies to elevate your skills. Plus, the dynamic between Jessica and Julie is so easy and natural; listening to and learning from them is just plain fun!

    Query Quest!
The Manuscript Academy’s query episodes are my current jam! They’re helping motivate and educate me—a writer about to start querying novellas—more than anything else out there. Grateful and excited for each episode! Thank you, ladies!

    What a service!
Thank you for providing this invaluable information to writers! I have found out so much information from these interviews, especially the 10 queries episodes.
  • Virtgirl
    My favorite podcast!
I look forward to each new episode. As a new writer, but not a young writer, it’s both fascinating and informative. I like to hear from established authors and agents that help dispel the many myths about publishing. It gives me confidence to move forward on my journey. Thanks, and keep them coming!

    Vital for writers!
I love this resource as a writer because it offers perspectives from authors, writing partners, agents and more. The podcasts are jam packed with information yet are not too long, which is beneficial.

    Amazing!
I love listening to this podcast! It’s so informative and has helped me think of my own writing prospects from the view of agents themselves!

    My Favorite Publishing Podcast
This podcast is not only informative, it has a kind, supportive, community-oriented vibe that I just love. I’ve discovered loads of interesting agents and resources from listening. Thanks guys!

    Reliable information, at last!
This podcast demystifies the submission process. Short episodes packed with reliable information directly from agents. Lovely.

    Agents are humans!
I was a journalist and editor for almost two decades, and I've been published upwards of 2,000 times. Style rules, word counts and deadlines were familiar. Writing a book, however, is making me a little nuts as I struggle with format, composition and flow from chapter to chapter. Hearing the thoughts and opinions of literary agents proves they're real human beings, and not just a bunch of stuffy sophisticates. Maybe I can do this!
  • tonpri
    Excellent information
I was blown away by the ten queries podcast. So much valuable information that I had four pages of notes. Love the Manuscript Academy!
  • Slinger of verbs and pronouns
    Informative and entertaining
The opening tune reminds me of the theme music for the show The Great British Baking Show. Once I hit play, I immediately salivate for the delicious publishing tips. Incredibly gracious with their advice and insight, Jessica and Julia are golden. Thank you!

Very well done. It is great when they interview agents I have met at conferences and I learn so much more. Best of luck, thanks again.

Episode #22: Ten Queries with John Cusick
John did a great job articulating what he thought while looking at queries—very informative.
  • SarahSteele
    Great for Aspiring Authors
I’ve been following Jessica Sinsheimer on the Twitter for a few years now and it’s so wonderful to get her insights in more than just 140 characters! They do a great job with this podcast, incorporating different aspects and guests of the literary world. It makes the idea of querying and putting your work out there much less formidable. Maybe I’ll actually do it someday...

    #TenQueries with John Cusick
Excellent insider information as literary agent John Cusick goes through his email inbox and responds to queries. Wish I'd listened before I started my WIP!

The Manuscript Academy Podcast & Classes
Truly one of a kind. Helpful podcasts with industry professionals always inpsire me to keep writing. Have had three 10 Minutes with an Expert meetings and each one so valuable. Also affordable compared to what else is out there. Wide variety of faculty. Makes this whole writing thing more approachable. Can't wait to see how this continues to grow.
