martinpiesesFantastic showThreshold is such a powerful example of environmental storytelling. In fact, it is so powerful, that I often forgot that, truly, I am being educated and learning through it all. Amy and the whole team approach these seasons and topics with a lot of care and curiosity, and it bleeds into every episode. I find this show inspiring. Thank you!

mkbroughtonAn invaluable, touching, and earnest resource for life during the climate crisisThreshold is an incredible show that’s clearly made with so much care. The focused seasons let you dive deep into the content and really immerse yourself. The second you start listening, you’ll understand why they’ve won a Peabody!! This podcast is certified binge material with incredible storytelling and structure. I love it!

birdssszzzzzThank you Threshold producers!Threshold is such a gift! I so appreciate their creative and in-depth explorations of important stories about humans, climate, and ecosystems. You'll learn so much from each of their seasons -- they are each so different, but the high-caliber storytelling and reporting carries throughout every single episode. Thanks to Amy and the entire Threshold team!

Dan LombardiGreat Breaking Show From MontanaThreshold changed how I saw the world. This is a great show with a lot of approachable seasons that have taught me a lot. However, I must give a special dose of love to season one, all about Bison in Montana. That season synthisized an incredibly important topic into a beautiful story that I had never seen so well-told. I have relistened to that season of the show a couple of times and now, still years later, recommend that all Montanas listen carefully. Beyond that, climate change storytelling is my passion and this show delivers that in gold, over and over. If you are interested in "nature" (or the world at large) an dwant to bend your mind in new directions, I strongly suggest you scroll back and start listening. - creator of the podcast, Headwaters

Golden State NaturalistEssential ListeningNot only is this podcast hopeful, engaging, thought-provoking, and gorgeously produced, it is also urgently needed. As noted in the show, we need unprecedented action to get us through unprecedented times, and Threshold offers vital insights to help us meet the moment we find ourselves in now, teetering on the brink of climate disaster. It does all this without allowing listeners to slip into the kind of despair we often feel when confronted with hard truths about the state of our planet. Masterful work by Amy and everyone on the Threshold team. I can’t wait to see what they do next.

ggs256Hard hitting and soothingThe perfect combination of calmness with science and fact based reporting. I always eagerly awaiting listening to episodes. Always the first podcast I recommend for friends looking to understand the impact of climate issues on nature and humanity.

devourerofwordsA master class in thoughtful, humane reportingI only recently discovered this podcast and could dedicate whole days just to listening. It’s rare to have this kind of rigor paired with such warmth, generosity of spirit, and crucially, hopefulness.

fly fishing galIn-depth reporting on tough enviro issuesSo many podcasts cover issues with only one or two episodes. The fact that Threshold creates many episodes for each season shows just how much investigating goes into reporting on big environment & social issues. The depth & breadth of each show is impressive yet remains digestible to the audience. Rarely are there cut & dry answers to difficult problems - Threshold is not out to sugar coat anything. But the diversity of people that are interviewed & questions asked show the commitment to telling as much of the whole story as possible. The podcast has prompted me to research topics further on my own. It also fills me with hope as I hear about people & communities developing real working solutions. Thank you Threshold.

Spirala11235The Tolstoy of PodcastsWith brain and heart, Threshold talks about the questions that keep me up at night. What are we humans doing to this planet? Can we change? How do we make sense of our human narrative, on the deepest level? Amy’s voice is unforgettable. Don’t miss this one…

midwest_is_bestBeautiful complicated necessaryThreshold makes me think, takes me on a journey, challenges my assumptions and leaves me slack jawed with wonder.

jlkshortThe evil white maleI thought I was enjoying this podcast as a fact based, solution oriented way to learn about the climate crisis. I’m done with it now after the condemnation of the, evil white male. Just give us the facts without your biased judgments. Two more points I’d like to make. Most realistic books that I’ve read on climate change recognize that solutions must come without upsetting the way of life in prosperous countries. Finally, the producers of this podcast need to consider whether they are trying to reach people already converted or if they want to make a case to convince the unconverted to strive for change and achieve the 1.5° goal. What I hear is alienation of the latter group.

TlhgrcfrnswrthA breath of fresh airThreshold continually provides high-quality reporting instilled with both fact and beauty. Season 4 has made complex conversations around climate policy accessible, helped me re-think an era of history, and gotten me totally teary about the atmosphere. A true standout show.

curious geographerThoughtful and balancedI just returned from a cross country trip and listened to all three seasons. I listened to the Refuge twice. There was so much content, a single listen was not adequate. The writing is excellent and the narration of events is lively and engaging. The interviews are very well done and demonstrate a clear desire to show all sides of the issue. I am very excited for the next season. This is intense, months long research that gets distilled into a few hours of reporting. I highly recommend this series.

Paul8757$88So refreshing, creative, balanced, & professionally doneThis review is based on season 1 (I felt a little differently about succeeding episodes): So many conservation-focused outlets are extremely biased and arrogant in their approach. This one is not. It’s extremely balanced, seeking perspective on both sides of every argument, avoiding judgment, and seeking common ground. Plus, it’s obvious that many hours go into the production of each podcast. It’s extremely captivating, creative, and informative. Highly recommend.

Adam EstremA MUST Listen!I just finished binge listening to this podcast over the last few weeks, and it has fast become my favorite podcast. The storytelling is masterfully crafted, and told in an unbiased way. I find myself day dreaming about how I can get involved in the issues being reported on, and for that I am so grateful!
-

angela hesseniusAn all-time favoriteThe Threshold team does an incredible job reporting and storytelling - not only do they pick great issues to dive into, but they look at things from multiple perspectives, they embrace rather than shy away from complexity, and they bring us listeners on a journey to where ecology and humanity intersect in a way that is so refreshing and needed.
-
thejones912Really excellent and thoughtful environment podReally impressed with season 3. The measured and thoughtful reporting about the wildlife refuge in Alaska and the context around what is happening with the oil companies was a welcome change of pace from the typical way these things are discussed (no nuance).

rdm976FantasticI just finished listening to Season 2 after a recommendation from friends...fantastic content and storytelling! I look forward to listening to season 1 now that I’m hooked. Thank you to the Threshold crew for the great work!!!

alsamagraLove love loveThis has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts and is a departure from my usual genres, which are crime/justice and politics. Relatedly, Threshold is appropriate for all ages and my difficult-to-impress 11 year old is into it too, so it's become a go-to when we're in the car together. Threshold is fascinating, deep yet well-paced, and has a good balance between host narration and interviews. Amy has a lovely speaking voice. The content is galvanizing. I'm a college professor and Season 2 has been an excellent resource for my Arctic Politics class! Keep up the excellent work!
-
Smurfty SmurfThe Best! This is a fantastic podcast. I love how they spend an entire season on one topic. In an age where my attention is getting fragmented across many different info-bytes I am trulu appreciative that storytelling still exist. I am halfway through the first season and cant stop listening. Highly recommend!
-
nopity_nope_nopeMy new favoriteI can’t recommend this podcast enough. When my friends ask me for podcast recommendations, this is my current go to. It has everything I ask of an investigative reporting endeavor: thought-provoking, well written and produced, poetic, moving... Loved the first first season (binged it in 2 days) and now I’m savoring the second. Kudos to this obviously very passionate team. Looking forward to whatever they do next.

Sunfish Moon LightThis. We need more of this. What a fantastic podcast. Nobody else is telling these stories in such a thoughtful, thorough, and beautiful manner.

Kait090909A must listenVery well put together, I wish I could convince my parents that don’t believe in climate change to listen to this.

real-peopleSo good!The most beautiful podcast!

mac9060Great for Biologists and EnvironmentalistsI recommend this podcast to everyone I know interested in the biological or environmental sciences. I’ve recommended it to professors who have then made it a part of their class curriculums. This is such a refreshing podcast to listen to, the very definition of how a conservation biologist (like myself) should do their job. All sides of the story are shared, this podcast gives me hope that our current environmental and political problems can be solved.
-
SDben5Professional and balancedI listen to many podcasts and threshold is a very professionally produced, written, and edited podcast. The content provides a balanced view of all sides of an issue; and the issues don’t just have two sides but many sides. This podcast is able to coherently explain the complex many sides of these rubik’s cube issues. The podcast does a good job of mixing in interviews, sound effects, and music.
-
dennnnytFantastic and importantThis podcast is a great listen. The crafting of story, the audio moments, and the essential importance of the topic make this a must-listen for all of us humans who care what the future will be.
-
NorrisjtGreat work!!!I love how we can learn from podcast. I am no where near this area of our country. Yet the Bison are amazing creatures and deserve to be allowed to continue. Thanks for all the information!
-
Rick in MissouriWe Need More Like ThisI just recently discovered this podcast and I'm only half way through the first season. I LOVE it! We need more podcasts like this. I love the way Amy takes the time to go into depth on the subject. More! More! More! This is excellent!
-
Dragonlady GigiFantastic! The first season about Bison is fantastic! I learned a lot and have much more appreciation of the politics around their existence. I am also amazed how many people forget that bison and native Americans were here long before the rest of us. Except for Native Americans we are all immigrants or descendants of immigrants. Likewise wildlife such as bison should have precedence over elk and other wildlife brought here by Europeans. I’m looking forward to digging into season 2.
-
bkoetterExcellent ExecutionAmy, thank you so much for the work you did on Season 2 of the show. I feel that what you’ve put together is one of the most important podcasts of 2018, and I’m doing my best to help it reach a wider audience! Fantastic approach on how this season was presented - I felt connected to each week’s storyteller, and left the show feeling inspired, rather than with the usual sense of dread we are so often inclined to feel after discussing climate change. Bravo!

Djones7441Must listenThoughtful and impactful reporting that takes you right to the place.

mtmagpieExceptional environmental reportingSuch a terrific podcast. Threshold’s lead reporter and producer, Amy Martin, is whip smart and the very best kind of storyteller. For the first two seasons, she and her team have chosen to peer into subjects that, on the face of it, wouldn’t likely earn a place on most people’s Top 25 list of Issues I Most Want to Know More About. Season 1 was about the controversy around returning the iconic American bison to the wild. Every episode, replete with stunning soundscapes, allows the listener to not only hear various points of view, but to simultaneously feel - thanks to Amy Martin’s extraordinary skill as an interviewer - the humanity of each of stakeholders interviewed, even though, in the end one might clearly come down on one side or the other. In these scarily polarized times, this is no small feat. And on top of that, the bison themselves are super interesting to learn more about. Once you start Season One, you’re going to want to binge. And you should, b/c now Season Two is upon us. Whole new theme. It’s about the effects of climate change on the Arctic. I’ve listened to the first three episodes, and once again: top tier, utterly fascinating reporting on what it’s actually like - from the mouths of individuals living in societies across the breadth of the vast Arctic - to witness the accelerating changes that threaten their communities in likely irreversible ways.

jwaaaaaEveryone needs to listen to this! This show is amazing and beautiful and so well done. Just what is needed in our current time.

BodorfJust what I was looking forLove this show. I look forward to new seasons. The host does a great job of being patient and understanding even when she interviews difficult and cantankerous people.
-
mercretasWell worth a listenEngaging and well produced long-form investigations into the natural world with a nice balance of perspectives.

dustin.oPoignant StorytellingI am only on Episode 2 at the moment, and I find this podcast fully engrossing. This project embodies the best of audio journalism and the podcast medium. Thoughtful, fair-minded, expansive, and nuanced. These stories explore America's relationship to the natural world and to the continent's native peoples with honesty, integrity, and passion. Thank you.
-
JackrusselterrorOne of the best podcasts Ive ever listened to!Threshold does such a fantastic job of bringing the history and contemporoary facets of the story of the Bison and Indigenous peoples of this continent to life. The complex issue is presented in a well rounded and fascinating manner. The history of genocide perpetrated against the native people and animals of these lands is atrocious and one of the most important stories to tell. While Threshold does not focus its scope soley on such a heavy subjet it does an amazing job of allowing the listener an unbiased view into those who stand at the forefront of these issues as they relate to the Bison. Absolutely excellent show. Thanks!
