Into The Vertical Blank

18

A Podcast about growing with a twin brother up In the 70s and 80s, at the dawn of video games, navigating family strife, punk rock, Star Wars obsessions, andtrying to understand the world while developing an inexplicablelove for everything “Atari”.-- In this podcast we discuss Atari computers and systems, new and old, review new games we collect, talk about all the systems, and the significance they had in our lives and the lives of others, and even talk about them in an historical context with the backdrop the times they were released, and how they are being used now. We do all this in an effort to finally understand the answer to this existential question: what does it mean to have grown up in the generation of "the Vertical blank."Credits:Written, Engineered and Produced by Jeff Fulton @8bitrocketWith help from Steve Fulton @fultonbot Branding by Daryl Litts @daryllitts

This is the reason why podcasts were created
These twin brothers deliver an excellent podcast every week. Their “vertical blank” theme ties into so many facets of Atari gaming and that generation and is something I connect deeply with. Their interviews are excellent and as game designers, they know their stuff which helps. Every story they tell mirrors my childhood in some way (and I’m sure many other listeners as well), even the stories that tangentially involve video games. This podcast is the reason why podcasts were created.

    Second Only to Ferg
Love the stories, love the interviews. But the best thing for me about this amazing, incredibly listenable pod is the presence and continued emphasis on the 7800. As a fan and budding 7800 home brew programmer myself, I can’t wait to hear where this show seems to be headed! Looking forward to it!

    Great Retro Gaming Podcast
As an Intellivision junkier back in the day this is one of the best Atari specific gaming podcasts around! Their stories and the great interviews are unmatched. I hope they’ll be around for many years to come!

    Awesome podcast!
One of my absolute favorite podcasts. The stories and memories are a joy to listen to. While I did not grow up in California(I was a Midwest kid), I can so easily relate to the stories and nostalgia. Brings back so many fond memories of life in the 80’s, or more accurately, life in the ‘vertical blank’!

    Trip down memory lane!!
I am proud to say I grew up with these guys, so this may seem biased. However, I am not writing this because they are my friends but instead because these stories about Atari and their family (especially their dad) are amazing! I was lucky enough to get to know the whole family and these stories bring fond memories of my childhood. Their dad was so fun and I remember spending many hours in Castle Park with Jeff, Steve and him. He was so happy observing his sons having fun. Thank you guys for taking so much time to document what I would consider some of the best times of my life. I haven’t heard every episode yet, but I am hoping there are some serious time dedicated to some of the good times outside of video games, for example, “kick the can”, the awesome gun show, and the epic over the line games with golf balls!! :-) Keep up the good work you two!!’

    GenX Bliss!!
I love this Podcast! I'm a 46 year old GenXer, and every well produced episode floods me with the nostalgia endorphins of my childhood! While this podcast focuses primarily on the video game influences of GenX, I would encourage any GenXer to check out this podcast, even if you have no interest in video games. In particular, I would recommend that you start with the "Clawhammer" episode, a beautifully told story about the two brother's relationship with their father, back in 1977. Keep up the good work, guys. Looking forward to the next episode!

A blast! Back from the past.
The camaraderie between these two brothers is unmistakable. The show’s production is slick, with plenty of good music, nostalgia hits, ambience, and good vibes. Have you played Atari podcasts po day?
