The Doctor's Farmacy with Mark Hyman, M.D.

We are seeing an ever-increasing burden of chronic disease, primarily driven by our food and food system. This is perpetuated by agricultural, food, and health care policies that don’t support health. We need to rethink disease and reimagine a food system and a health care system the protects health, unburdens the economy from the weight of obesity and chronic disease, protects the environment, helps reverse climate change, and creates a nation of healthy children and citizens. This podcast is a place for deep conversations about the critical issues of our time in the space of health, wellness, food, and politics. New episodes are released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. I hope you'll join me.Hosted on Megaphone.

    Too promotional
I used to really enjoy this podcast. Now there is too much pushing products.

    Ziva meditation
I looked into Emily Fletcher’s Ziva program. Anytime someone tries to tell you about all the wonders of a program, then a try to sell you their book and online classes I have my reservations. A lot of the real meditation programs I have found are free because the creator is not looking for a quick profit. They actually want to help people.

    Life long non meat eater
I was raised with no meat until I was 15 then I had had to change who I was living with and there was meat around but I didn’t like the taste so I didn’t eat much. A vegetarian diet has been my life style. I do eat eggs, cheese, fish, and no milk. I am now 79 years old and never had cancer or any major disease. My doctors are always surprised I don’t take any medication except estrace, a hormone which has kept my womanly parts healthy. I like your shows and when you talk about how bad our processed food is for us! I’m passionate about health because if I don’t have it I don’t have much life. Thank you for your podcast

    Love this Podcast!
This podcast is so informative and complex concepts are made much easier to understand! The only thing I wish for is that solutions to these problems would be focused on a little more from episode to episode. Focusing too much on the problem makes the goal feel out of reach and makes me anxious. Otherwise a great source of information! Just moderate your listening if you’re prone to anxiety.

    Fatty liver
Just finished the episode about fatty liver disease. A lot of great info on blood work stats and proper nutrition and exercise and testing for this prevalent condition among an unsuspecting population. I would only argue there are some symptoms to investigate related to fatty liver disease which may overlooked. Swelling in the legs, ascites, unexplained itching, sallow coloring, abdominal issues, nausea and fatigue. I was diagnosed almost 4 years ago and looking back I can see how these symptoms were not random but connected to my liver.

Terrible host, wrong messaging for a good topic
This guy seems like the typical egotistical cult-like leader trying to take your money to heal you. I am put off by him constantly interrupting his guests and overpowering them, his way of speaking is harsh to listen to, he acts like he’s the top expert in literally everything and is just having guests on to confirm his own thoughts while he manically word vomits at them, and he is constantly shilling his own products and services. I am all for helping people make better choices and anything to increase their knowledge of health and wellness is needed, but Dr. Hyman has become gross in his approaches. Now he’s gotten political and is announcing panels with fellow cultist Tony Robbins … AND McDonald’s loving Trump - who has proven he does not care about his own or anyone else’s health and wellbeing. Now it’s clear Hyman has been taking notes from these guys on how to grow a gullible audience that will line his pockets. What a joke. Unsubscribed.

My first episode and I am hooked! So enjoyed this deep dive on topic looking forward to listening !!

    Good topics, bad host
I really like to follow the topics, but the host is really hard to listen to. To host a podcast, it is not enough to master the subject but you should talk properly. He’d better take some speech training, he eats the words, makes weird noises in between, and of course interrupts the guests who are so much more agreeable to listen to! Plus, the sound editing is poor, his own voice is much louder than the guests.

    Like the content, but…
I like the content and am a fan of Dr. Hymen, but lets be a bit more mindful and mature when you’re talking about some things. For example, when asking what the Dr does when someone walks in looking like ‘Santa Claus’ when referring to someone who suffers from rosacea. Not trying to be overly sensitive, but for people who have been suffering with this for years, that’s pretty insensitive. Some of us have been bullied for years with this condition and called names because of it and this is just one more to add to the list. Let’s just be mature and refer to things as they are and not compare people with a condition to anything actually.

Great, but let the guests talk
Love these podcast but oh man please let the guest talk . There’s so much talk over and interruption of the guest, that I can’t help but get frustrated for them. Seems like Dr. Mark Hyman has loads of knowledge but also loves to hear himself talk. I really would like to hear the guest and their knowledge also

    Fantastic!
I love Dr Hyman’s podcasts! He has so much to offer and is just a wealth of good information. My lifestyle has been transformed because of him!

    Let others talk
What’s the point of inviting experts on the show if you’re just gonna talk over them? It’s great information for us to have but the delivery can be annoying at times

    Support
Thank you, Dr Hyman for sharing your knowledge and expertise with the public for free! It is not easy to find help in regular healthcare. Also… supporting Israel is the ONLY way to end the violence.

    Sound
I LOVE this podcast but...Dr. Mark breathes right into microphone! Not certain but he may also be eating. I really want to listen as the content is AMAZING but the noise lack of manners is distracting.

Expert host who cuts through the noise
There are many things I appreciate about this show - 1) Mark is a practicing MD and expert - arguably a trailblazer in functional medicine vs. a host who has no real content or relevant expertise 2) A diversity of guests, who are mostly doctors or other clinical experts 3) Advice / tips that are a mix of things that are very basic (e.g. eat protein first) and more advanced. As the content around health, wellness, nutrition, longevity etc. becomes more voluminous, I increasingly see this show and Mark’s website as a foundational, trusted source of information that cuts through the noise and overwhelm.

    Stop talking over your guests
I like the guests that you have on the show, and clearly you are very knowledgeable about functional medicine, everyone knows you’re one of the stars. But please please please, stop talking over your guests. What’s the point of having them on? Is it just so that you can once again say everything you say in every other episode about healing through lifestyle changes and functional medicine? Give your guests a chance to say the unique things that they might know or have experienced with their clients. Use episodes that are just you speaking to demonstrate your own knowledge.

    STOP STOP STOP
Please STOP EATING, DRINKING, SUCKING ON LOZENGES during your recordings!!! Oh my God!!! It’s now August 12, 2024 and you’re STILL EATING, sucking, snorting, digging food from your teeth with your tongue as you talk. STOP!!!! It sounds like lunchtime in an assisted living facility!

    NEVER AGAIN FOR ANYONE
56:34 I have been a listener of this podcast for years and will no longer be listening or subscribing to this podcast. 56:34 shows an open and blatant disregard for the violence happening in Palestine and “supports the state of Israel”. Disappointed and disgusted.

    A big thank you!
Dear Dr. Hyman I have read Food What the Heck Should I Eat and listened to your podcasts. I changed my mindset and my diet. In March my elastase results were 167 but today it is 685. I haven’t gotten back all of my tests today but your advice has changed my life! Thank you so much! Luanne Kulesa

    Great podcast dislike the interrupting
The podcast overall is great. The message the info the guest all great. I however really dislike how much Dr. Hyman interrupts his guest. He doesn’t let them complete their thoughts. He will ask a question and then interrupts as they begin interrupting their thoughts. The amount of interruptions are insane and just so rude.

    Your editor needs to …
Love the podcast but have so much trouble listening because your editor doesn’t allow even the slightest pauses between your words and sentences. Everything is just run together.

    Great explanations
Really enjoyed this episode to talk about the differences between big pharmaceutical Ozempic and the compounding versions of these peptides. Would really like to see the Ultra Wellness clinic doctors develop a show where families with systemic obesity and limited resources can make healthy lifestyle changes using the resources that they currently have. What Dr. Hyman facilitated with the family in (SC I believe? ) many years ago is very applicable to many families.

    Distracting Noises
I want to like the show but Dr. Hymans microphone is way to distracting. During the show you hear Hyman snorting, sniffing, smacking his lips and many other distracting gross noises. These noises are loader than his voice at most times. You do not hear these noises from his guests. I hope he gets this fixed. I will subscribe then.

    Slow down!
I enjoyed the episode on weight loss, but I felt like I was trying to drink from a fire hose. You were talking so fast and trying to cram so much information into a short amount of time that I could not follow most of it, much less remember it, especially towards the end. I was not somewhere where I could sit and feverishly take notes so if I want to remember anything you said, I’ll have to go back and re-listen to the podcast. I do enjoy your information, but this one was hard to digest.

Like the content but not the dismissiveness
I’ve been listening for a few months now and have been enjoying the content and learning. What I’ve noticed recently is Dr. Mark’s dismissiveness to things he disagrees with. That really came through in the dairy episode but I’ve heard it in some other episodes too. It is clear Mark doesn’t like dairy and even when his guest was tempering that with the realism of what people are doing and the fact that milk does have a decent nutritional profile. Mark did not offer up any suggestions for those of us who do get protein from dairy as to other similar options that might work. He was just so dismissive and most of us on our own health journeys can’t just switch overnight. It doesn’t help to make your listener feel stupid. That has never motivated anybody.

    Please slow down!
I really appreciate and trust Dr. Hyman’s expertise and his selection of reputable guests. But the speed and cadence of his voice are very challenging for me to comprehend the information. I tried listening to the podcast at .75 but he sounded inebriated at that rate. 😕 I wish he’d take a breath, slow down, and pause between main points to let the listener digest the high-level information.

    You talk too fast
Feels like your trying to cram all the information in our brains at once and are in a huge rush to do so. Stressful to listen to you and hard to track what your saying. Slow down. That’s good for your health too. Deep breath. One fact at a time. Then I’ll listen.
  • Levisam
    Enunciation
I find your podcast informative and interesting. However, I also find it extremely hard to listen to because you speak too fast and tend to slur words. I believe a speech therapist can help. For an example of a podcaster that has used the services of a speech therapist, listen to Jordan Harbinger.

    Maria Shriver
Really enjoyed the episode with Maria. I bought a subscription for functional health for my husband and will get one for myself too. I wish there was time to go over what Maria needed to do to help her markers. I hope you have her back in 6 months for the update and her younger age number

Stop talking like u have food in Your mouth!
I love u but while u talk u keep searching your teeth for food particles… its very disconcerting… and distracting for lower iq humans. Like liberals… just stop, saying for a friend.

    Love your podcast!
I learn so much every time I listen…and I loved the recent one on how psychedelics can help heal. I sought out my own treatment and it was life changing. Thank you for this podcast!

Great info…easy to see why we should all be reducing (even eliminating) sugar from our diet. Love your podcast. Thx!!

Dr Hyman, get yourself some better AV equipment! Otherwise, thank you for all of the insights and information.

    ground breaking
Thank you so much for validating what many of us already know, but we keep getting shut down from every direction. If we try something, and we get healthier, then it is valid for us, and we should keep doing it. Randomized controlled trials are great, but the absence of one should never invalidate the real lived experience of one human being.

    My improved health
This is probably not the best way to communicate with you but I’m going to try to reach you on this forum. I started listening to you about a year ago. I’m 76 and I have started eating more protein because of you, and I’ve eliminated sugar and flour…mostly. I’ve also begun lifting light weights regularly, along with my daily walking routine. I’ve noticed that my hair has stopped falling out, my eyesight has improved, I’ve lost weight, and I’m stronger. My normal weight was about 137 at 5’5”but since I’ve stopped eating sugar and flour, I now weigh 124! I look and feel great. I still have some bad habits, (wine), but I’ve cut back and I did sober January, for the second year in a row, and that felt good. I’m working on drinking less. I’ve eaten whole food for many years, no fast food or overly processed food. Because of you I just purchased organic coffee and have begun eating grass fed beef, and more organic fruits and vegetables. Thank you for helping me. I listen to you! Judy Brown Metairie La.

    BELLY FAT
I’m having a lot of trouble losing belly fat and just getting my weight back. Your ability to convey concepts & practical methods for the layman to use/study/ follow is just superb! Thank you for the help you provide for all listeners to improve their health. It’s truly a Godsend of hope and inspiration. I have passed your podcast site and many individual podcasts on to family members. Chris B, North Carolina

    Good Content
I love the quality of the content in this podcast but I’m having a very difficult time with how often Dr. Hyman interrupts the people he is interviewing. It is unfortunately taking away from the joy of listening and learning. Hopefully that’s something that can be improved over time because the information being shared is so vital.

    Dr. Hyman shouldn’t shame paraplegics!
The podcast is helpful in many ways, but it broke my heart that Dr. Hyman talked about the embarrassment of obesity and how he was amazed that people who have paraplegia and use wheelchairs are “surprisingly” considered less embarrassing than being obese. Neither obesity nor paraplegia should be shamed! As a wheelchair user due to paralysis after a bad reaction to a flu shot, I don’t appreciate being told I should be embarrassed to be in a wheelchair! It is difficult to get around and I shouldn’t be ashamed of my disability. I understand he was trying to be motivational, but it was immature to belittle people in this manner.

    Spreading the word!
Saw Dr. Hyman on Take Back Your Mind Podcast ( Micheal Beckwith) it was so impactful! I can’t stop talking about “Brain inflammation” caused by the toxins in our food in USA. So informative Thank you and yes, I’m now following your podcast.

    Disappointed
I am extremely disappointed in your guest Jason. I listen to learn about how to improve my health. Often my children listen with me. I do not want to hear a nasty mouth man cursing when trying to tell me about how to keep my body healthy. He needs to get his heart and mouth healthy! Yuck!

    Truth about Ozempic
I’m a bit confused. As a physician (MD) myself I’m wondering what kind of physican has a naturopath (Tyna Moore), who mascarades asa physician on her own website, discussing these matters with an MBA? 🤯 I was excited to listen until I checked the credentials of these folks. Important topic, but can we have some real experts please!? It’s my absolute pet peeve to see how many providers are deceiving the public into thinking they are working with a board certified physician when they aren’t!

America needs more leaders like Dr Mark Hyman. Thank you!
I’ve listen to the Doctor’s Farmacy for many years and recommended individual podcasts from it to so many friends and family that I’ve lost count and yet never left a review. But today’s podcast blew me away. I in no way consider myself a candidate for Ozempic today. I’m probably in the metabolic healthy minority category, but I was enthralled to listen to Mark navigate a heated yet mature conversation with two passionate, well-informed people and get them to understand one another’s perspective enough to agree on multiple points. We need more people in the world, not only with Dr. Hyman’s deep health knowledge, but also with the ability to help us as a society to entertain conflicting points of view, think critically, and resolve in a civil way so that everyone leaves smarter and more thoughtful about complex subjects. Thank you hosting a truly healthy and educational debate — beautiful to hear that long lost skillset used on such a popular topic today.
