Jon Richardson and the Futurenauts - The Book of Revelations

37

Jon Richardson and the Futurenauts - The Book of RevelationsComedian and professional worrier Jon Richardson doesn’t sleep much at night. The questions he is asking himself in the small, dark hours see to that. Are we going to run out of food? Is it already too late to stop climate change? Should I start learning Mandarin? Are killer death robots from the future already among us? Will my kids grow up to see a real tiger or giraffe? Why hasn’t anyone yet made an intelligent hairbrush? Oh they have? As you were…Playing on his own paranoia Jon will discuss his fears with guarded optimists Ed Gillespie and Mark Stevenson aka ‘The Futurenauts’. Authors, futurists and provocateurs, to ease Jon’s angst Ed and Mark take him on adventures through the futures we need that already exist today.Get in touch with the show - hello@jonandthefuturenauts.comA 'Keep it Light Media' ProductionFor sales and general enquiries - hello@keepitlightmedia.com

    Opinions with little behind them
I listened to just a couple episodes; future or work and future of education. Largely data free opinions of 3 guys from the left side of the political spectrum. Lots of catastrophising ; all teachers are good, CEOs are psychopathic, corporations are evil, the social contract is dead. They may be right; but such extreme positions could use some support. At one point they claimed, based on one study (1 more than you'll usually get) that companies who are progressive wrt paying employees are more profitable than others like Amazon. When asked why, they said it's because CEOs think they're better than anyone else. Huh couldn't you find a more simplistic answer? I also think that wage disparity is obscene, but the arrogance by people who haven't run large organizations (have they run any) is a characteristic of amateurs. Finally, both topics primarily deal with social justice aspects, like wage disparity. Future of work is a rich topic which goes way beyond this. So, just another bunch of guys without strong qualifications opinining on broad topics from a leftist lens. Go to Reddit or Twitter and you'll get the same depth of understanding.

    Informative
This is an informative podcast from a couple of guys who are involved in reimagining the future and a comedian who plays the part of Everyman. Jon (the comedian) asks the questions and seeks the answers from the two Futurenauts that will hopefully enlighten the slightly uniformed and the apathetic among us. It’s a podcast with science, hope, laughs and whisky.
