Carl Jung's Red Book + Astrology

Books #235

Exploring Carl Jung’s magnum opus, The Red Book, chapter-by-chapter. In each episode, Salome Institute director, Satya Doyle Byock, and Astrologer Carol Ferris discuss C.G. Jung’s vast work while reflecting on Jungian psychology and history, the astrology of Jung's time and ours, and the political, social, feminist, and anti-racist relevance of this work today.C.G. Jung’s journey into the unconscious began in 1913, just months before the sudden beginning of WWI. It was this descent, laboriously documented in a large red leather book that has come to be known as "The Red Book" that underlies all of Analytical Psychology, also known as Jungian Psychology. You do not need to be steeped in Jungian Psychology or in astrology to enjoy this Jungian Podcast. Satya & Carol make this work socially and personally relevant for people of all backgrounds, even those with little experience with this material.

    Timely and enriching
This series is full of wisdom, inspiration, and depth… it unpacks how Jung’s teachings remain a valuable guide for the human experience in any era, and especially now. I was able to dive-into Jung’s Red Book in a way I could not have done on my own. Highly recommend to anyone interested in Jung and astrology.

    Astrology
This is pleasingly professionally done. Stimulating blend of personalities. They possess a deep grasp of jung and of astrology. Here they discuss and learn together, from their topic; which is following how jung developed, sexually and spiritually as approached his theories and tested his spirituality; and then he wrote The Red Book. The way the blend astrology in to the weave has me hooked .

    Awesome job!
As a PhD Jungian psychologist in private practice and following the path of initiation and individuation (of necessity) I am just beginning to dive into your podcast. Loving it so far! Keep up the good work ladies!

    Very informative and nostalgic
Great job ladies, your podcast is very informative and filled with gold nuggets that are wisdom and I find a lot of consistency and truth. I am 26 and I too am in Portland, Oregon, I came here to deal with my own past traumas and to find myself in solitude to sort of separate the “us and them” as Pink Floyd puts it. I am hoping to catch you guys doing your podcast live sometime so I may ask some questions. I have traveled very far inside and have been studying myself and it’s relation to this realm since 17 and often struggle with communicating what I have found. I took a more independent approach in my studying after high school and tried to avoid much indoctrination though it is something unavoidable to an extent, I have done much independent thinking, philosophy and debating to strengthen what I believed to be my own ideas only to see that others had already treaded the path and this is what lead me to Jung and some other great philosophers, his writings and books speak to me in a way that feels like relief, that another understands. I do still have some of my own ideas I believe that could take place after Jung’s thinking and or work, unless I am missing something yet again. Anyhow, good job on the podcast it’s fascinating to hear these thoughts and ideas that are not my own from others as well, it shows me it is all true and that the collective is at play in its rewarding those who seek, with idea and memory/knowledge.

Excellent and oh so relevant to our times
I have studied with Satya and Carol for several years now, and cannot speak highly enough of their scholarship and powers of communication around depth psychology and astrology. This series of salons on the Red Book has accompanied many on a journey inward during our home bound months. I cannot imagine this quarantine experience without a weekly guided dive into Carl Jung’s seminal work.

    The red book with SALOMÉ
This podcast is extraordinary! Guided by the wisdom and depth of two great scholars, this podcast connects the astrological and cosmic dots between the time of the creation of Carl Jungs Red Book and the current times. Informed by a wide breadth of history, philosophy, and mystic and religious writings, this exploration tracks and exalts the re-awakening of the feminine in one mans psyche and invites the same to each listener, while linking to the larger cosmology of the times. Beautiful translation notes are provided through a feminist philosopher’s lens. All in all - a mind bending exploration of a mystic text with precious messages for the current moment. Listen and be woken to your soul.
