Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs

Are you wondering how a Christian should respond to current events? What are we to think about a world that appears to be going absolutely mad? How are we to discern the signs of the times? In this podcast, featuring The Reverend Thomas Pelham, The Reverend Daniel French, The Reverend Doctor J.A. Franklin and the occasional guest, we attempt to give some answers. Interesting and relevant with a sprinkling of fun
I always look forward to sitting down with a cup of coffee and listening to this Christian and Bible based podcast. Jamie, Tom and Daniel talk about current topics that impact all of us and sometimes they have different points of view, which leads to interesting and thought provoking discussions. I love their banter and sense of humour, which is much needed, as some of the things going on in the world are very dark and dare I say evil. God bless you for not being ashamed of the gospel.

    Very poorly researched
You missed several keys facts in the Matt Redman/Mike Pilavachi story and went on to describe another incident with Mark Driscoll where you admit you didn’t actually know what happened because you didn’t want to spend time researching the issue. Offering commentary without reasonably accurate information is an odd choice.

    Doing the Lord’s work
I found out about this podcast through an essay written by Rod Dreher. After listening to a couple of episodes, I was hooked. It’s quickly become one of my favorite podcasts, so much so that I happily support the pod on patreon. Allow me to share a little personal information — it’ll soon become clear how it relates to the podcast. I was raised Southern Baptist but lost faith at 20 and became an ardent and vocal atheist. It wasn’t until over a decade later that I could no longer deny the existence of objective evil. The corollary, once accepted, began a spiritual search for the Truth (and boy, I found Him). Long story short, the Lord showed me where I needed to be as I’d prayerfully requested. My wife and I were received into the Eastern Orthodox Church in 2018. We’ve since been blessed with two children, I serve on the parish council, and teach Sunday school. One of the major themes running through this podcast is that in order to be an effective fisher of men, the Church needs to preach Christ and Him crucified. All too often this message gets watered down and repackaged to appeal to worldly people who’ve been told their whole lives that they’re perfect just the way they are. Yes, Christ loves you just the way you are, but He loves you so much that He’s not content to leave you that way. If I never encountered a Church that made hard demands on me to change and grow, if the only message I ever received from the Church was a virtual carbon-copy of the message spit out by every major media outlet, government, university, etc., then I’d never be an active member of the Church today. And without Her guidance I shudder to think of what spiritual path I would have carved out for myself. (No doubt it would have been a heretical one!) You’re not going to bring the lost sheep back into the fold by repeating the same canned bromides that the World vomits out 24/7. That’s not what you’ll find with this podcast. The “Revs” dutifully speak the Truth in Love, and present the “hard” truths to a world who’s thirsty for it. You’re doing the Lord’s work, gentlemen. Thank you for all you do. Glory to God!

    Thoughtful, Faithful, Insightful
I started listening to this podcast about a year or more ago, and finally decided to become a patron. I'm not even Anglican, but I found these three vicars's seriousness and earnestness about their faith, as well as the refreshing, even entertaining, nature of many of their shows, worth my time. And I fully support their evangelistic commitment.

Wow, did you miss the point.
This is usually my favorite podcast but on the latest episode discussing the Asbury revival, the Irreverends really missed the point. They were entirely judgmental about the faith of the people at the revival, all while protesting they weren’t in a hurry to judge - it was laughable. They’ve decided we’re all headed for suffering and anything else along the way is either a temptation or a mass psychosis. They seem to have forgotten that God moves in ways we don’t understand. Yes, we are watching the slow destruction of western societies, but God is preparing His people to endure and overcome in HIs name - and the Asbury Revival is part of it. People are turning to God in repentence and seeking His will.

    Smart, faithful, engaging
A great podcast. Ministers like these are a blessing and a sign of hope for the Anglican Communion. God give them all His grace.

    An absolute delight
I love conversational podcasts, and Irreverend is my absolute favorite. The ground they cover with in each episode is impressive, and they do it with the proper balance of seriousness and whimsy.
