Bob & Ali are a great team. I appreciate their working relationship & the respect they show each other. They choose interesting cases and dig deep. Their explanations of matters of law and descriptions of case details have really helped me understand more than I knew before. I look forward to the next season.

I started out really liking this podcast with the Garcia case. Then it all just went off the rails and Bob quit in the middle of the story. Next he started a new case about Avery. Did he finish that one? Nope! I guess Delphi became the cash cow so he jumped to that case. I’m no longer interested in any of it so time to move on.

Gave up on Season 1 Gacey. Podcasts are audio experiences. If the recordings are low quality the host might put an effort into easing the audience pain by reading the most pertinent content. Rewind, play, rewind, play…. Geez, I don’t get what he said.

Absolutely love it. It is informative, interesting, and keeps me on the edge of my seat every time and I wanna throw my phone every time I hear “and we will talk about that on our next episode..” anyway funny moments here and there. I love the fact that you talk about that there’s like a blanket warning if you question the police or their integrity that are you sure you wanna do that tread lightly the one time was you better come correct meaning you better have exactly what you need. If you’re gonna challenge the police in a way to say they’re not doing their job or they planted evidence or whatever anyway also one less thing you impression of the judge, the first judge in the Anthony Garcia case reminds me of Colonel Sanders every time I hear it I see Colonel Sanders anyway love you guys keep it up.

I've been listening for awhile now. Season 1 hooked me. Season 2 also excellent until it came to a screeching halt... No one wants to re-listen to an entire season of 20+ plus episodes when one episode finally drops after months and months. I understand that Delphi is a current case and a lot is going on, but what makes zero sense is to start yet another deep dive into Steven Avery 🙄 before you even finish YOUR OWN CASE?! Make it make sense. And speaking about the Avery case... I find it a bit disgusting that Bob and Ali are implementing the family of the VICTIM as being involved in the cover-up. And all for the sake of framing Steven before they even knew Teresa was dead. 🤨 Then going a step further to say "if you came here expecting us to blame the cops for the murder you came to the wrong place" then continues to implement the cops in the murder. Get real. If you are going to implement the cops in a frame job BEFORE they even knew Teresa was dead you ARE implementing the cops in the murder!!!! It's quite disappointing. Richard Allen is guilty!!!!!!

I’ve never heard anyone like the sound of their own voice as much as he does. His takes are terrible and it’s very click baity stuff. Nope.

I’m a lawyer in South Carolina where I primarily handle civil matters on behalf of lawyers being sued and corporations in the construction industry. I have learned so much about criminal procedure from Bob (and wife:) I also admire the vigorous defense of your clients. Do I think Garcia is guilty? Absolutely but I really enjoy your advocacy. Everyone deserves a defense.

I 1st fell in love w/Bob via his Gacy podcast series, and then I listened to every episode of each season they had released. Eventually Ali entered the picture … and I was ready to be their “sister wife”! LOL 😂 They are amazing story tellers & each extremely talented attorneys.

I’ve learned so much about the law from Bob and Ali.

I recently found this show via following other shows featuring the Karen Read trial. I really enjoy both Ali and Bob so decided to start listening to this podcast and it’s a new favorite! Bob and Ali both provide great info. and I appreciated Bob stating “I want to just stick to the facts and not get hung up on opinions (about another attorney)” in one episode. Too often too much gets muddled in when the facts often speak for themselves. Very enjoyable and informative!

Greatest ppl, greatest podcast! Listening to you guys makes my days so much brighter even on not so great days. Love you Bob and Ali❤️❤️❤️

Richard Allen is guilty

I was a true crime buff before it was cool. Before the internet *gasp* when books were about the only real source. Ann Rule, John Grisham, Joseph Wambaugh… I love Bob and Allison! They break things down and take the time to teach listeners how the law works, the processes, all of it, and as an aspiring criminal defense attorney, I find their combined knowledge priceless.

I found this podcast through the Deviant pod - Bob was interviewed by the hosts and I was interested enough to search for Defense Diaries. I am hooked - every free minute I have is devoted to listening to this podcast! Bob and Ali are very easy to listen to and they have great chemistry - no wonder they are married! I am completely enthralled with these cases. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have an episode to get back to…

I listened to FIFTY episodes of season 2, which was fairly enjoyable as background during work, but it just dropped off. Where’s the conclusion? I don’t think I will invest time in another season. Too slow, and no end. Update: then I listened to season 7. But where is the rest?? It was so good. Love your wife!

This last episode was 15 minutes of commercials and thank yous. It has been nearly THREE YEARS since you started this story. For the love of GOD please finish it up. I’m invested at this point and I don’t want to just Google it. PLEASE.

A smart, no-nonsense analysis of cases. So why interject dumb jokes and awkward attempts at comedy? And please, please quit awkwardly, clumsily saying “y’all” a thousand awkward times per show. Often extremely biased towards the defense side, which you’d think they could avoid. Otherwise excellent.

Great show. I like the way the hosts are so passionate over the case, I have to explain. So I came here after the whole RA trial has concluded, and I’m now listening to part 14 of their coverage, and I’m sad that they think the jury is listening to the defence. I “watched” the trial following Lawyer Lee (great channel, great content), and after a while I’ve been watching and listening to others that were over there and covered this trial. I’m appalled by the judge and the lack of transparency in this case! But I’m grateful for everyone that gave their all for us to be able to know what happened. I cannot understand how people think these “confessions” are evidence of guilt. And anyone who thinks they would not confess to doing whatever after being subjected to this kind of torture is naive at best. I’m now a fan of this show and will probably binge listen to other cases moving forward. Thank you for your coverage and insights!

I found this podcast after seeing a documentary on “Bridge Guy”- amazing coverage and analysis of the trial (I’m an attorney and found it complete with great analysis). Still fascinated with the case… can’t wait to hear what’s next on that case or another case

I love this podcast. I couldn’t stop at 1 episode. I had to binge it all. The way Bob broke down the Gacy case… you think you know, but be prepared to be blown away.

I'll never listen to him because of all the lies he told on the Delphi case.

I will say the podcast is excellent, good content and good story telling, smart people, and interesting facts much better than most true crime out there, but admittedly only in the middle of season 2 and already feel the commercials/ads are the worst ive experienced. Too many, at the worst times, and about 2/3 minute each. They interfere w the flow of the story. I know I know, then pay for patron. Sure I can pay for no commercials but also other podcast make the commercials 5 mins long at beginning or end, they don’t do 10 mins of ads in 2/3 min Increments in the middle of the story, has to be cleaned up

Barely listenable. Much better content and presentation elsewhere.

Really glad I found this podcast, the cases are smartly dissected and told in an interesting manner that is educational and easy to follow. I appreciate the first hand accounts and legal insights from a professional defense attorney. I also appreciate the cases are not overly sensationalized or told in a way that is trying to sway the listener’s opinion. Definitely recommend!

What a riveting episode with A. Baldwin!

I love long-form true crime podcasts—the deeper the dive, the better. Defense Diaries is my favorite because of its rich subject matter, excellent writing and production, hosts with voices that draw you in, and integrity and heart that keep you listening. Few independent podcasts check all those boxes in their first season, and if they do, the second season usually fails to capture the same magic. Defense Diaries is the exception. Attorney-turned-podcaster Bob Motta improves on his winning formula in Season 2 by bringing his wife, laser-sharp defense attorney Alison Motta, on as co-host. (I don’t know when exactly Bob fell in love with Ali, but I did in Season 2, Episode 52, “Objections in Motion.”) In subsequent seasons, Bob and Ali offer insightful analysis and commentary on old and new cases. Bob’s extensive coverage of the Delphi murders, which includes boots-on-the-ground reporting of the Richard Allen trial, is particularly excellent. Like much of the content from later seasons, the Delphi coverage is from the Defense Diaries YouTube channel, where they’ve built a thriving community of thoughtful and passionate true crime enthusiasts. It’s a fantastic place to learn about the law, trial processes, and Constitutional rights from longtime experts who aren’t afraid to ask tough questions and fight for justice. If you’re just discovering Defense Diaries, you’re in for a treat.

There was a guy named Marcellus Williams on death row for a murder with the same MO as the murders that Garcia was convicted of. EXACTLY THE SAME! 🤔

LOVE this pod. Love the defense perspective from every angle. PLEASE finish the Garcia case. Not a huge fan of the lives turned into Pods. Bob and Allison together, going through every strand of a case, is a great listen. Thank you both for this content, and your fight to uphold the principles set forth in our constitution for all people.

I like the podcast so far but im startled every time the adds come on. The podcast is so low volume but those adds are LOUD.

They have to wrap up the Nebraska case. Stick to it stop switching to other subjects and then going back to it. You can’t blame Delphi, there has been so much more . Jon Benet,really? We don’t need every word word for word the case didn’t even last this long. Please just summarize it, and get to the end, at least stop switching to other cases or topics until you do. I love you guys, but this case is soo boring, and the guy is guilty,

I decided to start with season one, and I’m so glad I did. The Gacy case seems so straightforward. Until you hear this information presented by the son of Gacy’s defense lawyer. This is incredible. I’m looking forward to successive seasons.

I've listened to every episode and have come to love Bob and Ali. I've read previous reviews of how Bob and Ali bicker to each other, and quite honestly I love their realness. But Bob will go to war for his wife. They bring so much material and explain everything to the listeners so they understand. Thank you guys for the in depth pod. I will always share DD. While I find this lens valuable and insightful, I believe it’s important to address certain inconsistencies and claims made by the hosts. One major concern is the podcast’s assertion that it provides “unbiased and objective” reporting. This simply isn’t the case. The show operates heavily through the lens of a defense attorney’s perspective, which inherently introduces bias. While this angle is not inherently problematic, it becomes an issue when the hosts claim they are presenting purely objective facts. Really wanted to like this podcast. The season about gacy with all the insight was fascinating. Then got hooked on season two, but instead of finishing a season these guys go on to something else, leaving a season without an ending. Good content interesting insight but no consistency to the point it’s very frustrating to listening

You are a disgusting couple profiting off murderers. Being on Bob Ruff’s show even lost him listeners and he’s trash too. Hilarious that his listeners hate you too. That’s pretty bad.

I really appreciated the episodes released during the Delphi trial, not summaries but literally reporting on almost everything that was said abd done in court every day. Kudos to Bob for the incredible focus and energy he brought ( and Ali too.) There’s nothing like the insights a seasoned criminal defense trial lawyer can bring to a case. I was really enjoying the Steven Avery analysis too, looking forward to getting back to that series. As a Chicagoan I want to say, Bob you’re a true representative of our city - hope you get a street named after you one day!

I cannot believe I only just found out about Defense Diaries after Susan Simpson had Bob as a guest on Season 32 of the Proof podcast. He’s so amazing as a podcaster, story teller, educator, defense attorney and advocate for victims of crime. Start at season one y’all!

First of all, Bob’s voice is heavenly. If you want in-depth, well-researched true crime stories, this is your podcast. I also love the coverage of current true crime stories.

I love the Defense Diaries Podcast and am so grateful that (1) I found the pod, and (2) most importantly, they do what they do. -Side note: In my humble opinion, they should have way more exposure and subscribers on all their platforms! The Motta’s are amazing storytellers who keep me interested in even the most mundane aspects, while never losing the reverence that I believe is due in breaking down and discussing these cases that have affected so many.

It’s so nice to actually hear lawyers explain what is happening. It is always so educational, I actually can’t listen to other podcasts now because they have no idea what they are talking about. Love you guys!

They’re both very skilled and experienced attorneys, and speaking as an attorney myself, their backgrounds make a huge difference in the quality of the podcast - unlike many other true crime pods where the hosts act like they know (but don’t know) what they’re talking about.
