Beauty Translated

Beauty Translated is an original podcast from Atlanta, Georgia Natives Carmen Laurent and Janie Danger that focuses on the transgender experience in the United States. The show aims to examine the wide world of trans existence through the playfully honest lens of its hosts: lifelong glamour expert and esthetician Carmen Laurent and lo-fi, punk-rock savant Janie Danger. With each episode, the girls sardonically discuss topics relating to the legal, medical, and emotional world of being trans in the modern era. Beauty Translated is made by and for trans people, whether you have been transitioning for years, wondering where to begin, or would just like to relate to a loved one going through their own journey. Beauty Translated is for whoever needs it. Leave us a message on our Beauty Translated Loveline: 678-561-2785! We will be answering your questions and giving you bad advice on the air!

Love this - need more! MORE SEASONS for us allies
I listen as soon as it comes ou! More, please. Compassionate and deep interviews. I need to hear these points of view. I have trans friends and coworkers, but these are just quality interviews and discourse in general.

    Upset
I’m not a trans individual but I’ve really been educating myself about the trans community. However, I think Alisa/Issa is pretty privilege because there’s people who actually are struggling or can’t afford to transition who really know they are in the wrong body. I found this very upsetting.

    Carmen is beyond Trans elitist
She thinks there only one way to be trans, and that’s by having surgeries. She’s blatant about it too. If you don’t pass, you’re basically cis to her. I can’t imagine being so vile to your fellow transgender family. So if you were hoping for a progressive podcast, don’t bother, she’s basically Blaire White.

    Awesome!
One of your previous students here, it was awesome getting to know you and your guest on a different level. Season 1 was a huge eye opener on the journey it takes to become yourself. So interesting! I appreciate the vulnerability and honesty you all gave us. Can’t wait to see what season 2 is all about!

Great way to see things through a new lens
As a cis woman who’s becoming increasingly aware of how many folks (both in my life and in general) are trans and/or gender nonconforming, I’m finding myself with questions about the trans experience and about how I can be the best ally possible. The stories on this show have been thought-provoking and inspiring, and I especially enjoyed the episode about reconciling faith and identity. I’m excited to see where this show heads in the future, and so far, it has been very informative! Great job to Carmen and all her guests!

    Enlightening
As a nurse in the south, I realized I could do a much better job at educating myself on the Trans experience to better advocate for my patients, leading me here. This podcast has been funny, educational, and has certainly made me tear up a time or two. Carmen has created a wonderful platform that anyone and everyone who wants to be a better human should listen to. Beautiful!

From a cis red headed woman
I love listening to the host, she has a wonderful soothing voice that always calms me during my stressful work day. I think everyone should listen to this podcast and other media by transgender people to realize that we are all people and everyone should be respected and free to be themselves. That everyone is more similar than different and that those differences should be celebrated. Isn’t that what Mr. Rogers was trying to teach us?

    Transparency with Courage and information
I’ll be honest here. I met Carmen through my wife as they worked together for some time. As a straight man who knows nothing about the transgender community, the struggles each endure and the world they are secluded to, my eyes and heart opened up with this episode and I look forward to more. Carmen.. episode one… well done and I applaud you on your courage, your transparency and willingness to put out your past for all to hear. I know you as a friend but even more so now to know you as someone with the guts, the determination and the courage to voice your passions and life. Keep doing such amazing things and keep on being a voice for your community. ( btw you have such an amazing podcast Voice).
