The Violin Chronicles Podcast

0

In this podcast I will be telling the wild and wonderful stories englobing the lives of famous violin makers, what they got up to and placing them in their historical and musical context. We will look at instrument makers such as Gasparo da Salo, the Amati family, Guarneri Del Gesu and Stradivari just to name a few. Who were these people? What were their lives like? What was Stradivaris secret? and most importantly why and how did they make these master pieces we see and revere today. What was the first ballet like that Andrea Amati’s instruments played in, costing millions? Why did Antonio Stradivari have a shotgun wedding? and did Guarneri del Gesu really go to prison for murder? I speak to historians, musicians, violin makers and experts to unveil the stories of these beautiful violins, violas, cellos, double basses and the people who made them.

    Amazing podcast!
This is the best, most comprehensive exploration of the Amati family and their peers that I have ever come across! I’ve been researching Nicolo Amati for 25 years for a biography, and this podcast is so comprehensive and accurate that I had ‘Aha!’ moments in every episode. The way Linda Lespets captures the human relationships between all these people, their documents, and the larger history is brilliantly insightful. Absolutely a must listen! Thank you so much!

Thank you for your hard work
This podcast deserves heaps of praise because of the care and hard work by the host. She researchers and takes the time to track down experts in history to provide context to the lives of luthiers. The classical music industry should take lessons from this podcast for its in depth exploration of the subject matter. Rather than superficially spend 10-15 minutes on a subject or interview like other classical music podcasts, The Violin Chronicles provides does the work and is professional. The host’s production work is excellent. Thank you and keep up the good work. I will be supporting this podcast on Patreon. Publish quality content and listeners will pay for it.

    Informative and fun
I don’t often leave reviews but I felt this one deserved it. I’m a pianist first, violinist second, and definitely NOT a history buff. And usually I wouldn’t be interested in a podcast like this. But Linda has truly made the history of the violin and its makers interesting. She has done her due diligence in not only a significant amount of research but in interviewing multiple experts in the field from across the world. She gives historical context around the makers and builds their world in a way that is interesting to listen to. Whether you’re a musician or a historian this podcast is definitely worth a listen (or two)!
