My family and I stopped flying American Airlines 2 years ago after an absolute horror show with flights being delayed, canceled, and too much more to mention. There were 8 of us and we had paid for premium seats. The long and short of it was we ended up in 8 separate seats in basic economy after several cancellations and delays on Americans part- they could have cared less about us, even not caring that one of the 8 passengers was a 6 year old who they assigned a seat far from any other family members and left it to us to ask other passengers to switch seats so the poor little guy could at least sit next to one person he knew. After that whole experience, American offered us a total of a one hundred dollar voucher- far less than the seat upgrades had cost. We go out of our way to never fly them. We feel your pain and thank you for going public with this as it is beyond time the airlines-especially American- started putting customers first!
