    The Best
Kim's insights into the actual workings of Hollywood set this show apart from the superficial and tabloid coverage this industry normally receives. Her guests and interviews are fantastic as well. I wish 52 Bonus Banters came out every year

    Like but too left-leaning
Since it's an LA based show, I expected a left-leaning podcast but sometimes I'm still surprised about how confident the host is that absolutely no on in her audience is more centrist in their thinking. I like the "banter" part of the podcast, and most of the back-end interviews (if I see it's going to be a politically-themed echo-chamber exchange, I skip). Overall though, I commend the host's competence and interview skills.

    Full episode not uploaded
Hi guys. This last upload for 11/15/24 show cuts off in the middle of the banter. You’ve listed the episode as 30 mins. You have only uploaded the first 5 mins. Please adjust. I think this was an upload error on your end. Not mad, just eager to hear the rest :)

A star in her own right
Kim Master’s is truly a rockstar of journalism. She’s so bright and brings up fascinating topics and guests. I truly enjoy this show!! My only qualm is- she and her guests sometimes bring up so many industry names that they assume the audience knows, and it gets quite confusing if you’re not completely infused in all the details of the tv/film industry. Please explain the names you mention in detail, prior to bantering!

    Elevates the genre
Kim‘s interview with John Batiste is one of the best she’s ever done. I’m a fan for life of both of them.

    Ceasefire NOW
You should talk about your views on this and see if you can find your humanity. Your indifference and callous hate for any challenge to your view of the world WILL bring about a return of Trump.

So informative, diverse and enter into the banterverse
Banterverse is spicy, concise and entertaining! I really enjoy the insight and the updates but the bantering is fun and not bloated content. I also enjoy the diverse films and filmmakers that come on the show. Thanks!

    Too much.
I follow her on twitter, so might bias me a bit but Kim has become borderline unhinged by current social and political environment. Hard to believe any sort of ‘take’ she posits is at all fair/not somehow tinged by her seething social/political resentment. Also, getting bored of her, every 5 mins, angling for some way to mention work she’s done in the past (1990s??) and people she’s rubbed elbows with (and she loves pretending powerful industry folk think about her at all)

    More of the banter, please!
Love the banter portion! I listen to the podcast just to hear the banter part. Then, I turn it off.

    Love the industry banter
Love the podcast, especially the opening news wrap and banter about the industry

    Great podcast
Except Matt always say “hi there,” and never says hi Kim. She’s respectful of him though

    More banter, please!
Love this podcast for keeping up and especially Kim’s (wise and snarky) perspective. I would love to see full episodes of just she and Matt PLUS BIPOC guests banter. Need more biz perspectives than just Caucasian folks. This is my first go to podcast each week.

    Industry shill?
Would hope that the takes presented on a show like this would have some verity and bite to them. On the contrary they often echo superficial Network and Studio opinion on issues within the business. Case in point the recent episode on the “Rust” tragedy. There is real depth to this story and if the authors would take the time to dig in and do some reporting they will find something far more complicated and compelling than the knee jerk take being circulated by industry leaders.

The BEST podcast about the industry!
I have been listening to The Business for years, it’s just the best. The Hollywood breakdown is always so informative, I don’t have time to read the trades so it’s a great little set of updates and always so interesting. Kim is amazing, such a great interviewer and hits issues head on in such a straight forward way. I’ll never stop being a fan of this show!

    Not really about the business
Not what I expected. First ep I listened to was a former exec lamenting that movies were...a business??? Cause they supposedly weren’t before??? And the host just agreed with him the whole time instead of asking him some interesting, devil’s advocate questions. I was kinda shocked since the podcast is called the business and also the dude was a former exec, not a creative. Strange. Expected something along the lines of talks on mergers/acquisitions, competition, development, etc. Will have to give it another try.

Why is one bully being allowed to defend another?
You’re kidding with the two late July episodes, right?

I like Kim’s direct uncomfortable questions
I really like when Kim will ask those hard questions of her guests, and she seems to be fair with the guests and the situations.

Kim Masters is a gift to humanity
...Matt too. The banter, the news, the guests, the editing...everything here is tip-top. Like other listeners, I can’t wait til Friday to hear each episode.
  • MoviesorCinema
This is the best film news podcast
The worst thing about The Business is that it’s too short (30 minutes) and only on one day a week. I haven’t felt like this since I had to wait for a new episode of Cheers. Kim Masters is a wonderful host. Her insights on the business news for the first half of the show are very insightful. She gets a lot out of her interviews during the second half. Please pay her more money so we can extend the show a half an hour or add a couple of more days! Please.

New listener; what a great find!
This podcast is the same level of excellent TV reporting you’ve come to expect from THR. Kim Masters’ brilliant insight is such an excellent companion to TV’s Top 5. I found this pod when she was a guest there and am so glad to have another TV podcast from THR! I just subscribed a few weeks ago but am consistently blown away to how much I learn from each episode.

    Fairness
Abagail admits she has been wrong about every Disney move. I hope Kim plans to give equal time to Disney fans.

    love this podcast
I look forward to listening to this podcast every week. Kim’s guests are always fascinating even when I don’t know who they are. This pod is an essential listen for anyone involved in the industry. It’s been super helpful to me as an actor.

Would be good if they would stay off politics. So tiresome.
I listen to this for the latest on the BUSINESS of film and tv. NOT politics. Sheesh. Can’t take it anymore.
  • CollinSeattle
    Too political
Enjoyed for years but constant potshots and pure left view are tiresome. Ensures her audience stays in an echo chamber. Bye!

Wow! Mr. Katzenberg was Extremely Defensive about Quibi. I have been listening to The Business for many years and Never have I heard anyone come on and be that Defensive (Worried!)! Well Jeffrey I can Really help you and Meg with your venture. We should talk. Seriously, we should connect. Best.

    Great Podcast
For someone in the entertainment business who lives outside of both LA and NYC, this podcast provides very helpful insight. My agent originally suggested that I listen to this podcast as a good way to keep up on what is going on in our business.

    Lame
I liked this show for a while but Kim Masters takes lame potshots at great directors like Tarantino. She is not a movie lover.

    Amazing listen!
As a filmmaker in Houston I’m wanting to learn more about Hollywood and I’ve learned so much just listening to this amazing podcast! Forever listener!!

So good, an essential for anyone involved in entertainment or looking to understand the biz in Hollywood/LA. Love that it’s with the times. Love having such an awesome woman at the helm.

    Hollywood lefties
Typical Hollywood conservative haters. Hate FOX, Hate Trump, love all things left. It's like they don't know or care that potentially half of their audience is offended by their blatant bias.

    Politically Biased - The Business
Listened for years and years. Now I'm done. Kim Masters is the worst in terms of pushing her own personal agenda. She constantly uses confirmation bias to push her beliefs forward. Her feminist agenda is fine (being a woman myself), but - most recently - when she defends Samantha Bee with that same agenda, it is nothing but pure hypocrisy on her part. I will now try to find an entertainment business podcast that is not such a platform for one person's political and social agendas.

    Incredible Guests, Endure The Rest
This podcast regularly has fantastic guests that I'm very interested in. To get to these guests is a test of endurance. First you have to listen to three people of unknown qualification read the front page of The Hollywood Reporter, then they blindly speculate in a circle (triangle?), until it just runs out of steam. Then, there's the interview! Finally the guest you've been waiting for! But, oh no, one of the people from the first part is back and she conducts the interview by teeing up stories the guest has told on the press circuit elsewhere. Between these stories she will inject her own moralizing (at one point stopping Ridley Scott to clarify with the audience that Ridley wasn't celebrating Kevin Spacey's transgressions. Thanks, miss, this was unclear until we pumped the breaks on the guest and went around the table to confirm we dislike awful behavior). This is a pod that needs a major change up, but the booker is an all-star!

    Unnecessary Political Rhetoric
Not sure why I heard Donald Trump’s name mentioned 5x in the first few minutes of this podcast. Completely biased and false pretenses.

Wish the episodes were more frequent
Really enjoy this show and Kim Master's style of interviewing - friendly, firm, concise. The recent Shawn Levy interview was especially inspiring. I just wish the show was released more frequently.

    Weekly Hollywood Download
Starts with week's indsutry news "banter," which is helpful to get once a week. Then goes into a guest who is always interesting. The host isn't the best of all time, but this is a good one for people in entertainment!

Awesome show - been a favorite for a long time
This has been one of my favorite podcasts going back for years now. Kim Masters has a great voice and always puts her guests at ease when she's talking to them. I especially love the "banter" at the beginning of the episode that keeps you up to date with all the latest headlines.

Good but enough with Josh Barro
Show is good and informative, particularly the brief banter at beginning. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get rid of the Left, Right, and Center promo with Josh Barro yelling "HEY!" at the start. If I have the volume up this is jarring and potentially damaging to ears.

    Great for Film News
This podcast is a great way to quickly keep up-to-date with the the biggest news items for the last week in the film and television business.

Excellent podcast about the movie business
I've been listening to this podcast for at least 5 years. Always consistently excellent in it's banter about the business and it's in depth interviews.

A must listen for anyone in "The Business"
Kim Masters from the Hollywood Reporter hosts this weekly Hollywood Business podcast which is a must listen if you're in the "biz" or even just fascinated/interested in it. The "Hollywood Banter" which begins the show (now alternating between their TV expert and Matthew Belloni from THR after JG Horn left to do his own thing on So Cal's KPCC) breaks down the week's top issues, the segues into an interview with the people who make the content we all love. The interviews are insightful and don't shy away controversial elements. Being in the industry myself, listening to this is an important part of my week.

    Smart, sassy, but changes ahead
Looks like John Horn and Darby M. are on their way to other adventures, but Kim Master can handle the changes. My first review posed speculation about former host Claude Brodesser-Akner, but KM has surpassed him by a few measures. This is the starting point for people who want to know how the cinematic sausage is made. Complete, interesting, well researched, always compelling. it's a compact gem.
